ITS Campus, ITS News — Contributing to the development of Islamic economy in Indonesia, Institut Tekonologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS)launched a digital platform called Halal Waypoints and Verified Eateries (HalalWave) supported by Bank Indonesia (BI) and the Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH). By adopting artificial intelligence technology, HalalWave is designed to provide culinary recommendations that match user preferences.
Initiated by two ITS Department of Information Systems (DSI) lecturers Prof. Nur Aini Rakhmawati MScEng PhD and Amalia Utamima SKom MBA PhD, HalalWave was launched to complement the existing search system at BPJPH.
One of the initiators, Prof. Nur Aini Rakhmawati MScEng PhD explained, with the existence of HalalWave, users can experience a more interactive platform with the help of the Fuzzy Multi-Attribute Decision Making method. The method allows the system to process uncertain information, such as subjective user preferences. “With this method, HalalWave is also able to help determine decisions in choosing halal culinary for users,” he explained.
Not only recommending halal culinary, the professor who is familiarly called Iin explained that HalalWave also helps users find culinary locations quickly. Using the Genetic Algorithm method and the map feature in it, this platform can show the location and fastest route to the halal culinary location according to the user’s wishes. “So that HalalWave provides convenience and smoothness in finding halal food for its users,” lin added.
In addition, Iin also said that the platform, which was launched in conjunction with the Java 2024 Sharia Economic Festival on September 13, 2024 at Al Akbar Mosque Surabaya, has been integrated with BPJPH’s SiHalal system. With this integration, halal culinary in this platform has been guaranteed halal, so that people can confidently enjoy every recommended culinary. Now, HalalWave can be accessed by the wider community through the page https://wave.halal.go.id/.
The launch of this platform received positive responses from various parties, especially halal culinary businesses. With support from BI, halal Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) that have been verified by BPJPH in Java are actively registered on this platform. The hope is that HalalWave will not only become a halal culinary search platform, but will become a strategic step to support the growth of the Islamic economy in Indonesia. (ITS PR)
