ITS Campus, ITS News —Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) continues to strengthen its collaboration with the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) through the signing of a Cooperation Agreement (PKS), Friday (18/10), at the ITS Rectorate Building. This collaboration includes the establishment of Study Space and Migas Corner which will become a center for upstream oil and gas knowledge in preparing quality talents to support the management of the energy sector in the future.

The signing of the construction of the Study Space and Oil and Gas Corner was carried out by the Vice Rector IV for Research, Innovation, Cooperation, and Alumni of ITS Agus Muhammad Hatta ST MSi PhD together with the Deputy for Business Support of SKK Migas Rudi Satwiko. Also accompanied by the Senior Manager of Cooperation Management of the Directorate of Cooperation and Business Management (DKPU) ITS Dr Farida Rachmawati ST MT, and the Head of the Supply Chain Management Division of SKK Migas Eka Bhayu Setta along with other leaders of ITS and SKK Migas.

In his remarks, Rudi explained that the establishment of the Study Space and Oil and Gas Corner at ITS is targeted to have a strategic role in supporting the development of human resources (HR), especially in East Java. According to him, East Java is the second largest oil production region in Indonesia, with the Banyu Urip field managed by ExxonMobil Cepu Limited (EMCL) as one of the main contributors.

Rudi added that the Migas Corner that will be established will later become an educational center that will not only benefit ITS students, but also other universities in East Java. “Moreover, East Java is also the second largest gas producer in Indonesia, after West Papua. With this contribution, East Java becomes an important backbone for national oil and gas production,” he explained.

The Oil and Gas Corner that will be built in the lobby of the ITS Library is designed using metaverse-based technology that provides an interactive experience for visitors. Especially for students so that they can experience a virtual simulation of working on an offshore platform. “Visitors can interact directly with the production equipment and operational facilities on the rig, presenting an immersive and in-depth learning experience,” explained Rudi.

In addition, he continued, the use of multimedia technology allows the software in the Study Space built on the 2nd floor of the ITS Library to be updated to align with the latest technological developments in the upstream oil and gas sector. With this update, students can learn the latest and essential production technology applied in the field, such as cutting-edge exploration techniques or energy supply chain management.

Continuing Rudi’s conversation, Vice Rector IV, who is familiarly called Hatta, also appreciated the collaboration with SKK Migas. He hopes that the synergy that is established can be even stronger to produce graduates who are able to contribute directly to the national strategic industry. “ITS continues to be ready to collaborate in preparing superior human resources who are competent to face challenges in the oil and gas and energy sectors,” he said.

Hatta emphasized that natural gas has great potential to support innovation and encourage energy efficiency in various sectors. ITS has currently collaborated with a number of parties, both from industry and government to maximize gas utilization. “We want to develop cheaper and more environmentally friendly energy solutions with maximum use,” said the lecturer from the ITS Department of Engineering Physics.

Furthermore, Hatta revealed that ITS views the use of gas as a relevant and prospective option for the future. Especially considering its availability which is more guaranteed and more economical compared to several conventional energy sources. “With the collaboration of Study Space and Migas Corner, we hope to create a more sustainable energy ecosystem and support national energy security,” he said optimistically.

With the establishment of Study Space and Migas Corner at ITS, the collaboration between SKK Migas and ITS is expected to be able to improve the quality of human resources and encourage innovation in the upstream oil and gas sector, while strengthening national energy security. With strong synergy between academics and industry, it is also expected to be a catalyst for the development of independent and competitive national energy. (ITS PUBLIC RELATIONS)
