ITS Campus, ITS News — One of the alumnus of the Department of Civil Engineering, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) Lucia Karina made her alma mater proud as the recipient of the SDG Pioneers 2024 award. The award given by the United Nations (UN) Global Compact supports professionals in saving and innovating to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The woman who is familiarly called Karina is the only one from Indonesia and one of two Asia Pacific representatives who received the prestigious award. She said the award was given for her commitment to the implementation of the SDGs in air management, environmental responsibility, and community development. In this case, the woman who currently serves as Director of Public Affairs, Communication, and Sustainability of Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) Indonesia has succeeded in encouraging inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
Through her various programs, Karina emphasizes the principle of circular economy in waste management with the community. As stated in one of her flagship programs related to the Amandina-Mahija PET waste recycling program, Karina involves all stakeholders from recycling heroes to the recycling industry as partners.
She said that one of the things that she continues to hold on to today is the effort to make partnerships with various parties and the spirit of ‘no one left behind’. In this case, he feels he has had many opportunities and learning during his time at ITS. “We believe that to create an extraordinary impact, synergy from all elements of society is absolutely necessary,” he said.
Lucia Karina sharing her experience in managing a sustainable industry at an ITS event.Not only that, Karina also revealed that as an engineer who works in various sectors, she understands that the key to producing impactful solutions is the courage to get out of the comfort zone. Especially in initiating programs that prioritize sustainable patterns.
Furthermore, Karina explained that sustainability challenges require cross-border thinking. From this thinking concept, technical and non-technical approaches are needed. “So as to not only minimize the environmental footprint, but also commit to creating shared socio-economic benefits,” Karina added.
Reflecting back on her time studying at ITS, she believes that the opportunity to become a student is the best opportunity in life. Therefore, she advised ITS students to continue to welcome challenges from the various opportunities that exist. “Later, it will also turn into an unforgettable value that you get from this Sublime Mother (ITS),” she motivated.
