Gresik, ITS News — In an effort to reduce industrial carbon emissions, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) through PT ITS Tekno Sains handed over 160 units of electric-powered motorbikes, Electric Vehicle ITS (EVITS), to PT Petrokimia Gresik. The handover of the vehicles that will be used to assist operational activities took place in the industrial area of PT Petrokimia Gresik, Tuesday (3/12) afternoon.
Wakil Rektor IV ITS Prof Agus Muhammad Hatta ST MSi PhD dalam sambutannya menyampaikan bahwa penyerahan motor listrik EVITS ini merupakan salah satu bentuk kolaborasi strategis antara ITS dan PT Petrokimia Gresik. Kerja sama ini, menurutnya, adalah wujud nyata komitmen kedua pihak dalam mendukung tercapainya Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) poin ke-7 mengenai energi bersih.
The Professor of the ITS Department of Engineering Physics explained that EVITS is one of ITS’s leading innovations that is in line with the needs of modern industry. This vehicle is designed as a sustainable solution that not only supports energy efficiency, but also encourages the development of green technology to face operational challenges in the industrial sector.
Adding to the previous statement, Director of PT ITS Tekno Sains Dr Ir Ketut Gunarta MT explained that EVITS has been equipped with the latest generation of lithium-ion batteries that allow this vehicle to travel up to 110 kilometers on a single charge. In addition, this vehicle is equipped with an Internet of Things (IoT)-based monitoring system, which allows users to monitor vehicle performance in real-time.
Furthermore, according to Hatta, this vehicle is not only designed for energy efficiency and carbon emission reduction, but also to face tough challenges in corrosive work environments, such as Petrochemical areas and coastal areas. “The EVITS frame is made of stainless steel material so it is safe from corrosion,” he said.
On the other hand, President Director of PT Petrokimia Gresik Ir Dwi Satriyo Annurogo MT IPU expressed his appreciation for the EVITS innovation resulting from the collaboration between ITS and PT ITS Tekno Sains. According to him, this vehicle is the right solution to support operational efficiency. “The technology presented is not only in line with our vision of sustainability, but is also very practical to support operational activities,” said Dwi in appreciation.
The Malang-born man also expressed his hope that the cooperation between the two institutions can continue to support PT Petrokimia Gresik in realizing the vision of a green industry. “We hope that this collaboration will not stop here, but will continue to grow in order to encourage sustainability in the industrial sector,” he concluded hopefully.
