ITS Team in the 2024 National Cyber Jawara Competition after winning the championship
ITS Campus, ITS News — Good news in the field of cybersecurity has again come from the civitas of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS). This time, the ITS CSIRT team managed to take home the champion title of the 2024 Cyber Jawara National Hacking Competition organized by CSIRT.ID, an independent Indonesian cybersecurity community at the University of Indonesia (UI) Depok, Saturday (11/2).
The team consisting of two students from the Department of Informatics Engineering, Tunas Abdi Pranata and Muhammad Bimatara Indianto, as well as staff from the Directorate of Technology Development and Information Systems (DPTSI) ITS Aji Pratama has successfully won First Place in the Capture The Flag (CTF) category. Aji revealed that the ITS team was able to complete various challenges given in the competition.
Questions include problems that contain real-case cybersecurity incidents such as cyber-attacks using malware, cyber-attacks on a server, or cyber-attacks on a website. Not only that, he further explained, his team was also challenged to conduct further digital forensics on the motives of the attackers. “From all these challenges there will be flags that must be achieved,” he explained.

As it is well known, the blue team category in the world of cybersecurity itself is interpreted as a defensive team that plays a role in conducting Malware analysis, Network Analysis, Log Analysis, Cloud Forensics, Insider Threats, and others. Meanwhile, the participation of the ITS CSIRT team in this event also supports Sustainable Development Goals 16 and 17, namely Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions and Partnerships For The Goals.
Successfully excelling from 15 other teams that are qualified for the final round, Aji said that this achievement was inseparable from the hard work of him and his team. No doubt, the team that focuses on the blue team category on cybersecurity has started its training since last October. “In addition, our team, especially Abdi and Bima, have had various experiences in CTF competitions with a forensics theme at the national and international levels,” he said.

Additionally, Muhammad Bimatara Indianto as a student also shared his success. The man who is familiarly called Bima said that this team was able to take an early step thanks to the ITS Heroes Cyber Security (HCS) community which often carries out joint learning activities. “Hopefully we can achieve many other achievements in the future,” he concluded.
Through his team’s brilliant achievements, Bima also expressed his gratitude and appreciation to ITS DPTSI who had given him this opportunity. According to him, through this competition, he has learned a lot and has opened his views on the development of the current cyber world, which will later be useful for DPTSI and ITS.
