ITS Campus, ITS News – It has been three days since Wednesday (30/1) an assessment of the certification of ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) took place at the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) Surabaya. On the last day of the visit, Friday (1/2), the assessors from AUN-QA explained the results of the assessment of four departments in ITS that were submitted to get this certification.
As previously reported, the four departments in ITS which was submitted for AUN-QA certification this year were the Mathematics Department, the Physics-Engineering Department, the Urban and Regional Planning Department, and the Marine Engineering Department. Previously there were 12 departments in ITS which had obtained AUN-QA certification.
In his presentation, in addition to presenting the results of the assessment, the assessor team also provided inputs to improve the quality of ITS in the future. From the three days of the visit, the first two days were the time of review and evaluation. Continued on the third or final day, particularly the presentation of the assessment results as well as closing the 133rd AUN-Quality Assessment at Program Level at ITS.
The assessment was held in a closed event by the assessor team in each department by interviewing the lecturers, staff, and students. As well as a review of supporting facilities in the related departments and ITS environment in general.
This advice then gets responded by ITS Rector Prof. Ir Joni Hermana MScEs PhD. Through his remarks, Joni expressed his gratitude to the entire AUN-QA team and four ITS departments who have worked hard in preparing everything in this event.
He stated that certification is not the main goal of ITS. “The goal of ITS is not only to get a certification but to get advice from the AUN-QA assessors team that will be a report and improvement for ITS,” said Joni. It is hoped that in the future ITS will be able to compete better in this era of industrial revolution 4.0.
Meanwhile, the Vice Deputy Chairman of AUN-QA, Prof. Ir. Dr. Shahrir Abdullah said that the purpose of AUN-QA is to improve the quality of universities. “We plan, implement, examine, act, and continue to evaluate so that the AUN-QA system and mechanism can be monitored and evaluated for development,” said AUN-QA Lead Assessor.
After the closing ceremony, Joni revealed that ITS received a positive response from the assessors. “From the aspect of teaching and learning process, facilities, and our output (ITS, editor) received a good response, but of course there is advice from them, especially about the modernization of facilities and the promotion of internationalization in ITS,” Joni explained. He said that the AUN-QA assessors hoped to improve English language skills for all ITS academics.
The results of the assessment that were done by the assessor team can only be known a month later, to determine whether the four departments have succeeded in obtaining AUN-QA certification or not. With the AUN-QA certification, it means equalizing the quality of graduates from the four departments with other universities in Southeast Asia who are also members of AUN.
