ITS Campus, ITS News – Directorate of Global Partnership of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) once again presents the Community and Technological Camp (CommTECH) 2020 Exploration international program. The annual event that participated by the participants from Soka University and Kumamoto University, Japan was opened by ITS Vice-Rector IV of Research, Innovation, Cooperation, and Alumni Affairs, Bambang Pramujati ST MScEng Ph.D. in ITS Rectorate Building, Thursday (20/2).
In his speech, Bambang expressed his appreciation to students and academicians from Japan who had attended the event. He also appreciated the CommTECH program, in which ITS was able to establish cooperation with foreign universities. “This program provides opportunities for students to learn about the community and global issues through a variety of fun learning activities,” he said.
Representing Soka University, Prof. Sato Shinjiro also expressed their pleasure to visit Indonesia and participate in the CommTECH Exploration program. He also advised the students that this program was the right place to explore knowledge. “Explore the knowledge and develop your skills as best you can,” he said in a speech given.
Director of ITS Global Partnership, Maria Anityasari ST. Ph.D. explained, CommTECH Exploration held this year was not only based on an annual program but also was a request from the university in Japan to establish a partnership with ITS. “Therefore, in this year’s CommTECH, we invited 16 participants from Japan, specifically from Soka University and Kumamoto University,” she said.
According to Maria, the theme carried out in 2020 CommTECH Exploration is Disaster Management in Indonesia. The reason for choosing this theme was because both Indonesia and Japan are countries that have great risk, especially in disaster management. “Therefore, through this program, students can discuss and explore knowledge about disaster mitigation, especially in Indonesia,” she explained.

The best summer course program in Asia that lasts for two weeks until March 3, consists of several series of activities. These included briefing of disaster management, a visit to the 112 Command Center, and mangrove exploration in Wonorejo Village. “Hopefully, through this activity, students can more easily recognize disasters and actively involved in disaster mitigation,” explained the ITS Industrial Engineering lecturer.
Besides, in this activity, participants will also gain experience in the form of Indonesia’s exploration through a visit to the relics of the Majapahit Kingdom, making Batik creations, decorating Janur, and a trip to Mount Bromo. Maria explained, this activity was aimed at introducing foreign students to the rich culture of Indonesia. “With this activity, students not only gain knowledge about disaster mitigation but also other fun learning activities,” she added.
Lastly, Maria hopes that the CommTECH program can be implemented by all departments in ITS so that it can open the opportunities for students in each department to study with foreign students. “It will also show that ITS has a position internationally and make ITS students become global citizen, where they can explore a lot of knowledge globally, can communicate internationally well and are always confident in realizing their dream,” Maria said in full of hope.
