Kampus ITS, ITS News – Competing globally, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) is continuously proving its excellence. According to the Times Higher Education (THE) ranking, ITS is crowned the third best in Indonesia after University of Indonesia (UI) and the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), in the Emerging Economies category (developing countries).
Senior Manager of ITS World Class University Affairs, Rulli Pratiwi Setiawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., explained that ITS was well-placed in the 251-300 rank in the Emerging Economies category and is ranked 1001+ in the Global category. “ITS successfully outperformed Gadjah Mada University (UGM) and Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) in cluster 251-300, for the Emerging Economies category,” she identified.
Rulli further explained that the success of ITS outperformed the two campuses mentioned before because the total score achieved by ITS exceeded the acquisition of UGM and IPB. When viewed from the rankings, this ITS Regional and Urban Planning lecturer admitted that there were ambiguous data stated in the table, where ITS was ranked fourth for the Emerging Economies category and sixth for the Global category.
But when referring to the total acquisition value, Rulli emphasized that ITS is strong when placed as the third-best in Indonesia. This ITS Architecture alumnus added that the campuses’ writing sequence for the same ranking cluster is sorted by alphabetical order. “So don’t be surprised that when opening THE page, ITS is not written in third place in Indonesia,” she reminded.
Based on THE data, there are 13 value indicators used to rank nearly 1,400 global universities. Among these are the number of international academic staff, female staff, research staff, international students, female students, undergraduate students, master students, doctoral students, doctoral degree winners, doctoral research awards, awards professional doctorates, research input, to income from industry and institute commerce.
In addition to the ranking, THE also released a new ranking achieved by ITS in certain fields. Namely, the position of 401-500 in the category of Computer Science, rank 601-800 in Engineering and Technology, and range 801+ for Physical Sciences.
However, Rulli stated that ranking is not the main goal of ITS. But it can be a media for ITS’ benchmark in competing both nationally and globally. Moving forward, ITS is optimistic that ITS will be able to become part of the five National Legal Entity Universities (PTN-BH) in Indonesia which are ranked among the top 500 universities globally.
“This is in accordance with the target pursued by the Minister of Education and Culture (Mendikbud), Nadiem Makarim,” concluded this doctoral alumnus of Hiroshima University, Japan. (dik/ory/ITS Public Relations)
