ITS Campus, ITS News – Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) students descended directly into the field doing social action by spraying disinfectant in fishing village and village around Kalimas railway station Surabaya, starting Monday (23/3) then. Not only that, the students who are members of the Digital Marketing Camp (DMC) Program also share an antiseptic fluid in two quite populated village.
Chandra Kartika Ahmad Ibrahim, one of the volunteers who went down directly to the field, said that spraying disinfectant already done to more or less to 250 houses. “The places we choose have a fairly high population density and the taste is not yet affordable by the government,” said Chandra. According to him, this has been confirmed by hamlet leaders in the region.
When asked about the history of the corona patient or Corona Virus Disease 2019 (Covid-19), Chandra explains that until now there is no record of the incident in the region. “There is no data we receive about the positive history, People in Monitoring, and Patients in Supervision before, but I want to underline that does not mean in this area negative Covid-19,” said Chandra. Moreover, the knowledge about Covid-19 in this area is still very lacking.
Spraying done at two points, the first in the region Neighborhood 04/Hamlet I, Tambak Sarioso urban village, Asemrowo subdistrict, West Surabaya. “Coverage in the area is approximately 100 houses, along with elementary schools, mosques, and Mosque,” said the student from Jakarta.
The activity then continued at the second spraying point located in the village surrounding Kalimas railway station. Precisely in Neighborhood 01/Hamlet 01 and Neighborhood 08/Hamlet 06 Perak Utara urban village, Pabean Cantikan sub-district. Chandra with five friends began spraying from 06.00 a.m. to 18.00 p.m.
Chandra reveals that they divide time into three sessions. “First from 6 to 9 a.m., switching to the second point from 10 to 11 noon, and continuing in the afternoon from 4 to 6 o’clock,” he explained. It aims to follow the spraying standards in which the disinfectant fluid should not be directly exposed by the sunlight.
The students from the Department of Biomedical Engineering said that they carried 50 liters of disinfectant fluid. “DMC ITS work with the startup of ITS origin named Kayöne Health so that the disinfectant used and the ordinance spraying in accordance with the standard Kemenkes (Ministry of Health) and WHO (World Health Organization),” explained Chandra again.
Not forgetting, they also share 10 liters of antiseptic on each neighborhood leaders to be further distributed to local residents. This activity runs smoothly despite slight obstacles.
According to Chandra, because the roads are quite small, the transportation they use distress to reach the deeper areas. “We are grateful this activity was well responded by the citizens and they became more vigilant with this coronavirus,” he said.
Going forward, Chandra continued, they also plan to provide a supply of masks and food because of many residents in the area whose work needs a mask. “But because it is expensive (the price), they are not able to afford it,” he said.
The DMC also plans to perform this social action in some areas of Surabaya that still need help. They hope it can help the city of Surabaya to pass the outbreak of the Covid-19 quickly. (Meg/Anjani/ITS Public Relation Officer)
