ITS Campus, ITS News – Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) Covid-19 volunteers continue to work hard tirelessly in effort of dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia. Seeing this, Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Sosial (BPJS), the managing social security agency, shows its gratitude and appreciation by providing protection in the form of free labor insurance that was submitted directly to the ITS Rectorate Building on Monday (27/4).

The Head of BPJS Employment Branch at Surabaya Darmo, Guguk Heru Triyoko, explained that this protection will cover all accidents that might happen in relation to activities as a Covid-19 volunteer. For example, when an accident occurs while leaving for work (as a volunteer), then it will be covered by the BPJS Employment insurance.

However, when an accident occurs outside of the circumstance mentioned, it will not be covered by the BPJS Employment insurance. “For example are cases when the volunteers are exposed to Covid-19, it is not our responsibility, but instead the responsibility of the government,” he stated.

In addition to the insurance provided, Guguk mentioned that BPJS Employment also supplied masks and vitamins for volunteer workers. This will help improve their immunity against Covid-19 and help them in carrying out their work as volunteers.

Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of ITS Creative Design and Digital Business, Imam Baihaqi ST MSc PhD, revealed that those who are registered as ITS Covid-19 volunteers are entitled to receive employment protection insurance benefits.

According to Baihaqi, ITS gratefully welcomed this offered assistance. Due to the fact that volunteers will feel calmer with the protection from BPJS Employment. With this insurance, volunteers will be considered equal with workers in general. “So that they (volunteers) can get the same benefits as common workers without any deposit given that is applied in certain regulations,” he justified.

Until now, ITS Volunteers have produced and distributed tens of thousands of face shields that greatly assisted medical personnel and related officers throughout Indonesia. In addition, ITS aims to never stop developing countless new and helpful innovations in dealing with the world pandemic, specifically in Indonesia.

Baihaqi hopes that this act will motivate other agencies to join in lending a helping hand to deal with the pandemic that is spreading throughout the world. (sof/ory/ITS Public Relations)
