ITS Uses Esri Platform For Policy Making Based On Geospasial Data

ITS Campus, ITS News – almost two months since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia, some news of birds or hoaxes regarding information and data on this plague began to scatter in the community. Departing from the issue, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) with Esri Indonesia seeks to prevent the overlap of Covid-19 information by sharing a dedicated platform.

Lalu Muhamad Jaelani ST MSc Ph.D., coordinator of Logistics Team and technical team of handling care Covid-19 ITS said, previously Esri Indonesia has been working with ITS since 2014 in providing unlimited licenses (by request) for students, lecturers, and parties who worked together with ITS.

Like the earthquake that occurred in Lombok in 2018 then, ITS with Esri Indonesia managed to perform disaster response action. One of them is associated with the management of temporary residential development (Huntara) in the location of disasters. “This we aim for the progress of ITS Huntara development when it can be monitored and not overlap,” he added.

Esri is engaged in the provision of a spatial-based mapping and analytics platform with ArcGIS brand that includes desktop, server, mobile and online platforms. The lecturer who graduated from the University of Tsukuba in Japan said that Esri is the only most prepared platform with complete facilities.

“The Platform can be accessed easily by the user (end-user) according to the provider,” he said. As with ITS student data collection in the period 3-5 April, users can access it on the https://arcg.is/TeK8q page. From the results of the survey, there are data on students ‘ presence, health condition, and contact history performed by students.

Known, as many as more than 70 percent of students have been in the hometown, while the other 30 percent, i.e. 67 students are still around ITS campus. From the 67 students, some are known to have a history of travel to Solo, Jogja, and Malang. “The 67 students also claimed to have symptoms,” said the lecturer of Department of Geomatics Engineering.

The Data will be used and acted upon by the related parties at ITS with the coordination through the technical team handling the Covid-19 ITS. In doing so, the campus can perform response actions quickly and effectively. Then explain that the platform is not only equipped with full features and survey facilities that are easy to use by the community, although it has a limited internet infrastructure. “From the maintainer, we (ITS with Esri Indonesia, red) are facilitated in analyzing rapidly and presenting data online to donors,” said Lalu.

He added that the platform has two main principles, which are easy for surveyors in the field, as well as fast and accurate for policymakers. “Also, the platform is easily monitored by third parties, namely donors and other humanitarian institutions,” he said.

At the end of the interview, the message to students, lecturers, education personnel (Tendik), and all ITS residents is to follow the security protocols that exist. “By maintaining the health of themselves and the environment of each other, then this pandemic can be solved properly, ” concluded optimistically.
