ITS campus, ITS News – Coincided with the National Awakening Day which fell on May 20th, the Covid-19 Research and Innovation Consortium, which was carried out by the Ministry of Research and Technology/National Research and Innovation Agency (Kemenristek/BRIN) conducted the launching of Indonesia’s innovation product for handling Covid-19 with the theme of Indonesian Innovation Awakening. Among these products, Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) also contributes to innovation in the form of two medical equipment products.
In the video uploaded by YouTube channel Kemenristek/BRIN, from various product innovation that has been inaugurated by the President of Indonesia Joko Widodo. There are two products that are contributions from ITS. Namely the Medical Assistant Robot ITS-Airlangga (RAISA) and ITS Faceshield Mask products.
Director of Research and Community Service (DRPM) ITS Agus Muhamad Hatta ST MSi PhD explained from many innovative products that ITS shipped to Kemenristek/BRIN, these two products were selected to be featured in the ranks of national flagship products. “This RAISA can help the medical personnel in RSUA, and Faceshield products have been produced more than 150 thousand pieces with donation system,” he explained.
Vice-Rector IV ITS of Research, Innovation, Cooperation, and Alumni, Bambang Pramujati ST MSc MEng PhD also added that these two products provide a big impact on medical personnel. Even Faceshield produced by ITS team has been deployed to various provinces in Indonesia. “This product certainly provides a sense of security for the medical personnel who are on the front guard,” said the professor of mechanical engineering.
Continuing the previous statement, the launching of innovative products for handling of Covid-19 is an appreciation from Kemenristek/BRIN to ITS and other inventors. “This is also a positive impact for us because our works can be utilized by wider community,” added Hatta.
With the inclusion of these two products into innovative products for the handling of Covid-19, Hatta expects that both can be mass-produced considering needs in various places in Indonesia. “We expect it to be mass-produced through industrial hilirization or diffusion,” this professor of physics engineering said.
Meanwhile, for the production of RAISA, Bambang said ITS and RSUA will perform more production processes. The research team has received permission and funding from Kemenristek/BRIN to do the production process of RAISA. “So far it has been produced four for RSUA, hopefully, it can be used by other education hospitals, too,” he explained.
Bambang reveals that we must be conscious and resurrected with innovative products by the nation’s children. “Our reliance on imported goods as much as possible should be suppressed, and if possible should be eliminated,” he said.
To conclude the interview session, Hatta hopes that with the product of this innovation, especially from ITS working with RSUA, can help the medical personnel and the general public to fight against this pandemic. (RI/Anjani/ITS Public Relation Officer)
