ITS Campus, ITS News – This year, the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) has opened wide opportunities for high school/vocational high school graduates to continue their tertiary education at this Heroes’ Campus. Through an online open discussion (Open Talk), on Thursday (11/6), ITS thoroughly introduced the registration of new students in 2020 for the undergraduate, vocational, and international class programs.
ITS Director of Education, Dr. Eng. Siti Machmudah, S.T., M.Eng., explained that currently, ITS is opening three main registration channels for undergraduate programs. Namely the National University Entrance Entrance Selection (SNMPTN) with a quota of 20 percent, the Joint Entrance Entrance State University Selection (SBMPTN) by 20 percent, and the Partnership and Independent Selection (SKM) with a student quota of 50 percent.
Among the three pathways, 1,022 students have passed the SNMPTN path and have been re-registered last April. As for the SBMPTN path, prospective students must take the Computer-Based Writing Examination (UTBK) and will be needed to register before 20 June. “This year, UTBK uses one type of test, the Scholastic Potential Test, and can only be entered once,” elaborated this lecturer who is often called Machmudah.
The Scholastic Potential Test in the Computer Based Writing Examination, she continued, consists of four aspects namely general knowledge, general reasoning, reading comprehension, and qualitative knowledge. These four aspects have four different value weights for each study program. “For more information, participants can access it themselves on the page https://ltmpt.ac.id,” she added.
Compared to the SNMPTN and SBMPTN paths, the SKM path, which will open on July 6 to July 27, is divided into two, namely partnership and independent selection. The partnership is specifically for prospective students whose parents work in ITS partner agencies, companies, Provincial Governments (Pemprov), City/Regency Governments (Pemkot/kab), or agencies engaged in services or manufacturing. As for the independent pathway, there is no specific provision, but the selection is based on the Computer-Based Writing Examination score/ITS Academic Ability Test, grades on the report card, achievements, and portfolio.
SKM registration is done online and can be accessed via the official ITS website, http://smits.its.ac.id. “The quota of SKM students for the six faculties to be accommodated is 1,980 people,” stated Machmudah.
As for the vocational program, ITS opens registration through achievement, regular, and independent paths. Through the achievement track, prospective students will be selected based on performance tracking results and academic portfolios. “As for entering through the regular and independent tracks, it requires the Computer-Based Writing Examination score/ITS Academic Ability Test grades and the list of achievements,” said this ITS Chemical Engineering lecturer who earned her doctorate at Kumamoto University, Japan.
In addition, ITS also re-opened registration for international classes or commonly known as the International Undergraduate Program (IUP). The program, which was only launched last year, will accommodate as many as 606 students. This program offers international exposure and can be followed by Indonesians/foreigners who graduate from 2018 to 2020 with qualified English skills.
This program selection is opened in two waves. The first wave is currently underway and prospective students are filtered based on report cards/SAT scores or achievements. “Registration for the second wave takes place next July and requires Computer-Based Writing Examination score/ITS Academic Ability Test/SAT scores and list of achievement collected in the portfolio,” she revealed.
Furthermore, Machmudah explained that the ITS Academic Ability Test test that was used as a requirement for SKM, Vocational, and IUP pathway selections, will be conducted online with 33 sessions that will be held for 11 days. Unlike the Scholastic Potential Test at UTBK, the ITS Academic Ability Test has four elements, namely verbal, quantitative, logical, and spatial. “Each element has a different portion of value according to the choice of the study program,” she emphasized.
Prospective students can take the ITS Academic Ability Test through two waves, first on June 15-28 and second wave on July 6-19 by registering an account through http://smits.its.ac.id. “If the participant is not satisfied with their score on the first wave selection, participants can participate in the second wave selection,” she concluded.
