ITS Campus, ITS News – The annual Civil Expo event, organized by the Department of Civil Engineering, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), returned this year with a new spirit. On Sunday (6/14), the ITS Civil Expo Instagram account revealed the logo and the main theme of this biggest event organized by one of the oldest departments at ITS.
The logo designed by the 2020 ITS Civil Expo design team depicts a cube frame with a gradation of colors from orange to blue. The cube framework used is a design that has been used from year to year. This cube framework symbolizes the main elements or framework needed for the building to stand firmly, namely the column and beam elements.
“This logo itself refers to our background and our identity as civil engineering students,” explained Francisco Pascalino, Head of the 2020 ITS Civil Expo.
Furthermore, the cube framework used as the logo is actually a formation of two letters, namely the letters C and I. These two letters are an acronym for Civil Expo ITS. What distinguishes this logo from the previous year is the use of color gradations on the logo. Quoting from the event’s Instagram account, the color orange symbolizes warmth and passion. While the blue color symbolizes calm and freedom.
In addition to the logo, the Civil Expo Instagram account also released the main theme, which is Refining Indonesia’s New Face. This student who is familiarly called Lino elaborated that with this theme, they try to raise topics and issues that were discussed or are being discussed heavily in the world of development and infrastructure in Indonesia, namely the relocation of the capital and sustainable development. “Because we chose to focus on development, we took that theme to be applied at the Civil Expo this year,” he emphasized.
Later, there will be a series of events and competitions. For the competition itself, there is the National Concrete Competition (NCC), Geotechnical Engineering Competition (GEC), Dynamic Load Bridge Competition (DLBC), and the Olympiad of Civil-Engineering (OCE). This year, the Civil Expo will also hold a conference of students from all educational institutions in Indonesia that focuses on building a new capital city with the concept of sustainable construction.
All categories of the competition can be attended by students throughout Indonesia, except the OCE category which can only be attended by high school students or equivalent. “Each of these activities will have their own sub-themes that are interconnected with one another and of course, with the main theme,” added this ITS Civil Engineering student of batch 2017.
By using this theme, the 2020 ITS Civil Expo event is expected to be a place for participants and other parties involved to be able to maximize their potential in the field of civil engineering. Although the world is still in pandemic and all activities will be carried out online, it certainly will not dampen the spirit that we aim to build. “It is hoped that with all the potential and innovation sparked by participants, they can perfect the new face of Indonesia in the future,” concluded Lino.
