ITS Campus, ITS News – The spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) has an impact on all aspects of people’s lives, including the economic aspects for student parents. Based on these considerations, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) through the Rector’s Decree provides the waivers of single tuition (UKT) payment for ITS students for the 2020/2021 academic semester.

According to Ir Mas Agus Mardiyanto ME Ph.D., Vice-Rector II (field of planning, finance, and infrastructure) ITS, it is intended to relieve the burden of students in the odd semester 2020/2021. “We suspect that many students are affected (economically) with a pandemic outbreak (Covid-19),” he said.

He revealed that some news in various media also reported that there are so many layoffs by companies, the daily workers were also unable to earn, even entrepreneurs in various sectors also suffered significant turnover. “So the decision made by ITS is intended to help the parents of students, especially for those affected by pandemic Covid-19,” he said.

This environmental engineering lecturer also explained the waivers of UKT payment for the students of Diploma, undergraduate, and graduate programs is an extension of the UKT appeal policy. However, the difference between the UKT payment waivers for the student is divided into four.

Firstly, the subsidies are given by the ITS from free UKT scholarship for the student who only needs to complete the final task/thesis/dissertation. This form is aimed at students who should be able to graduate in the next September 2020 period. However, due to difficulties in obtaining data and consultation with the guidance lecturers due to the large scale social restriction (PSBB) policy, the final task or thesis or dissertation was delayed. So that the impact of students can not take the exam in June or July

The former head of the Department of Environmental Engineering continued, the waivers of UKT payment is carried out through the filing of the students concerned with the explanation of the lecturers and the head of department that the final task/thesis/dissertation concerned has reached 60 percent along with related documents. “Specifically for the dissertation, the lecturer’s description of the supervisor should explain in detail that the dissertation completion is delayed completely because of the Covid-19 outbreak, ” he added.

Second is the subsidy from the form of free UKT scholarship for a student group with UKT Category 1 ie Rp 500,000 per semester and not receiving scholarships. According to Mas Agus, this is done because the students who enter this category from the beginning of college parents belong to low income. So to lighten it up, UKT will be directly freed without filing.

The third and fourth types are subsidies from ITS that is adjustment and installment of UKT for other groups based on application. Adjusting the size of the UKT to be paid will change into a category underneath one or more levels. “For example from the level of category six UKT to category five,” he explained.

The intention of subsidies for installment payments is the delay in payment. “The size of UKT remains the same, but it can be paid backward or up to one semester,” he said.

Explained by Mas Agus, although parents for other groups are economically capable, because of a pandemic caused a decline in earnings. “Then they were allowed to apply for adjustments or delays in the payment of UKT,” he said.

For information, the waivers of payment for UKT can be done through the application submitted to the Vice-Rector II with a statement letter of decline in economic capability due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic by including the salary slip of the company/institution before and after the pandemic period signed by the treasurer of the institution, certificate of income before and after the pandemic period signed by the chairman of RT/RW, letter of layoffs to other legitimate evidence.

Hopefully, with this decision, ITS can give a guarantee of the absence of students who have difficulty continuing his studies because of the difficulty of paying UKT due to the affected pandemic. “I hope ITS always provides the desire of all students to be able to complete his studies and graduate,” he concluded.
