Kampus ITS, ITS News – Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) once again expanded its collaboration with local governments in Indonesia. This time, ITS and Batu City Government (Pemkot) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), in relation to their collaboration in regional development project plans, which took place virtually on Tuesday (6/30).
ITS Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. Mochamad Ashari, M.Eng., conveyed that this MoU is a form of extension of cooperation between ITS and Batu City Government which has been running for six years. “In addition to the renewal of the MoU that had expired in 2019, ITS also expressed its appreciation to the Batu City Government on working together to develop the region,” he expressed.
The Rector, who is familiarly called Ashari, explained that going forward, ITS and Batu City will develop regional development projects that include a master plan for drinking water drainage, solid waste management, smart city, and other development projects. Ashari also hopes that in the future, this collaboration will not only be formed between the two institutions. “With the network, we have at the moment, we can partner with state-owned enterprises (BUMN), investors, startup companies that have the potential to develop the development of Batu City, especially in the tourism sector,” he further elaborated.
Mayor of Batu, Dewanti Rumpoko, M.Si., revealed that one of the biggest projects that will be carried out with ITS is the construction of a cable car that is currently being postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “Hopefully this pandemic will soon improve, so that our progress for this project can be continued soon, definitely with ITS who continues to support Batu City,” she hoped.
Dewanti also explained that academic assistance is needed, especially in regional development projects. She also appreciated the community service program conducted by ITS that was carried out in Batu, which was related to herbal tourism plans. “That is our goal (Pemkot Batu, ed), where herbal plants in Batu City have great potential to be developed. And through this program, the herbal plants and tourism sector have good support,” she clarified.
At the end of her remarks, Dewanti hopes that through the assistance of ITS in the Batu City development project, Batu City Government will be greatly helped and supported in achieving success in its regional development. “Hopefully this collaboration will have a positive impact on ITS and the entire Batu City community,” concluded Dewanti.
