Kampus ITS, ITS News — Students of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) once again brought pride to their alma mater for the umpteenth time. This time by bringing home the title of Best Young Innovators which was won by three students of the Department of Systems and Industry Engineering ITS in a competition held by PT Astra Daihatsu Motor, entitled Building and Empowering Young Innovators for Indonesia (ASTRA BEYOND).

They are Roosita Noor, Anis Salamatul Fitria, and Marsya Aulia Fardana in a team called “Mahidara”, where the three managed to solve the problems given by PT Astra Daihatsu Motor on the ways to improve the quality of products, services, and Human Resources (HR). “In this case, we carry the concept of innovation to integrate HR between positions using information technology,” revealed Roosita Noor as the team leader.

On the same occasion, Anis Salamatul Fitria, one of the team members, explained that the proposal they submitted had the ability to them to the final round. In the initial selection, the proposal contained applications that are able to integrate the company’s activities and supply chain flow of PT Astra Daihatsu Motor.

This student, who is familiarly called Anis, revealed that the ideas in the proposal were even more focused when reaching the final round. That is because PT Astra Daihatsu Motor has a broad scope in the series of company activities and still needs improvement in terms of integration of duties, roles, and authority of work. “So, by then, we focused more on the division of labor, attendance, and employee work performance,” she continued.

Furthermore, Anis explained that everyday workers can take note of their presence through the website. Not only that, but the completed work can also be filled in on the website thus making the progress automatically shown. “Data on attendance, work performance, and job authority can be directly accessed by the supervisors of each worker,” she informed.

In terms of benefits, Anis mentioned that there are some positive things that can be obtained when using this innovative application. One of them is that all data will be archived properly so that it can be more easily used when needed. “PT Astra Daihatsu Motor can also use this data to facilitate decision making,” she continued.

Based on this, the team’s innovation was judged as the right solution in integrating work among employees, monitoring attendance, and monitoring employee performance, according to the jury. “Thus making everything properly controlled and will run well,” emphasized this student of batch 2017.

In the manufacturing process, this SMA Negeri 5 Surabaya alumni revealed that there were many difficulties faced by her team. The main difficulty comes from the lack of self-confidence and they felt like they are lacking in terms of skills. “The number of other participants from prestigious universities is also another reason that made us insecure,” she claimed.

However, insecurity is definitely not an obstacle to go ahead and win. With their unyielding nature, the innovation they made succeeded in being the best among the 94 participants from 12 prestigious universities that took part in this event.

At the end of her interview, Anis hoped that this competition will catapult the name of ITS at the national level. Not only that, she also hopes that PT Astra Daihatsu Motor can establish further cooperation with ITS. “Hopefully our work can also be useful and better developed in the future,” she concluded, hopefully.
