ITS Held CommTECH Virtual For The First Time

ITS Campus, ITS News – Covid – 19 Pandemic did not discourage the spirit of the internationalization of ITS. Under the auspices of the Directorate of Global Partnerships, for the first time, the Community and Technological Camp (CommTECH) was held virtually. This activity lasted for 12 days until Friday, (14/8).

Muh Wahyu Islami PM as CommTECH Program Manager revealed, packing CommTECH in virtual form is new and challenging. Nevertheless, he and the team are always determined to invite participants to learn about the global community and issues with a variety of fun activities. “In this period of the pandemic we strive to think more creatively to convey material in an unusual way,” said Wahyu.

Furthermore, the first sub course series on the 16th CommTECH was raised the theme of the Internet of Things (IoT) for Smart City Applications during Pandemic. This Subcourse was attended by nine participants from Japan, China, and Malaysia. “Incidentally the topic is warm and in accordance with the current situation where all activities are carried out online,” said Revelation.

Not only studying the topics that have been selected, participants were also presented with a session of Indonesian language learning through Fun Indonesian Language, Virtual Campus tour, and also traditional batik and traditional dance sessions. For the traditional dance itself, the Tor-Tor dance from North Sumatra is chosen to be studied. “Although implemented online, we still combine with non-academic activities,” said Wahyu.

To maintain community participation, CommTECH Course 2020 Online Edition also invites outside parties. It was seen from two sessions involving the Surabaya City Tour which was guided by the House of Sampoerna. “There is also a sharing session and virtual live from the Sentra UKM Merr Surabaya,” he said.

This activity is expected to inspire young people not to be discouraged to continue to be creative in these pandemic times. “Alhamdulillah so far the response is good and we can also take classes even though IT does not have a background from IT or Comp science,” he said.
