With Practitioners, ITS Launches Management Strategy Book

ITS Campus, ITS News – To realize Indonesia’s global competitiveness, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) strives to foster the competence of the strategy management of the country’s successors. In 2014, The Center for the Study of Public Policy, Business, and Industry (PKKPBI) held the virtual launch of a philosophical mindset management book, Tuesday (18/8)

The head of ITS PKKPBI, Dr. Ir Arman Hakim Nasution MEng said, the book Management Strategy: Revo 4.0 Based Change Management Approach in the VUCA Era is recommended for those who are in higher education and also for who already have a career. “This book doesn’t have to replace the textbooks, but it will be a popular book that explains the philosophy strategic mindset in management,” he said.

Arman, his familiar greeting, explained that the book was created to provide a strategic mindset to the younger generation. In a real example, Arman assesses that the mindset is often only formed when a person is in their forties. “We hope that once the competency can be developed, then the competitiveness of this nation is not left behind other countries,” explained by this alumnus of the Department of Industrial Engineering.

The era of Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity (VUCA) is the basis for rapid world change when innovations that disrupt the old order have occurred on all fronts. “Based on being human learners, adaptive skills, or change management we need to prepare in the competition,” Arman continued.

In writing the book, lecturers of the Department of Business Management ITS are working with two practitioners with their expertise. The first was Ir Destiawan Soewardjono MM who was also present to give his speech at the launch of this virtual book. “He was chosen because of his experience in infrastructure which certainly enriches the knowledge of strategic thinking,” he said.

On this occasion, Destiawan participated in explaining the objectivity of writing this book. He said that this book was written to document the work of State-Owned Company in its participation in building the country. “Hopefully, the younger generation as the main actors of Indonesia as a developed country can also build infrastructure,” said the President Director of PT Waskita Karya.

Also, Arman introduced Prof Benny Tjahjono from Coventry University. Benny is a diaspora that has been in the United Kingdom for more than 20 years. “With a lot of experience in corporate case studies in developed countries, Prof Benny contributed in this book,” he said.

In the event, the Deputy Governor of East Java, Dr. H Emil Elestianto Dardak MSc. Emil felt that the publication of a book on management from this technical institution is in line with the expression that an engineer should have a management perspective. “We know that ITS can see the contextualization of all technological phenomena its relation to management,” Emil explained.
