ITS Campus, ITS News – There have been many innovative ideas created by students of Institute of Technology Sepuluh Nopember (ITS). At this time, the idea came from three students from the Department of Regional and Urban Planning (PWK) and the Information Systems Department who are members of the ION Team. The collaboration of students of both departments resulted in innovation in the smart ticketing system named Elang System.
Muhammad Akbar Makhbubi, as ION Team Leader, said that the transportation system is crucial to the effectiveness of a city. But in fact, traffic violation cases are still numerous in Indonesia, thus becoming the cause of other traffic problems such as congestion and accidents. In Indonesia, one way to reduce traffic violations is to conduct speeding tickets by police officers.
“Unfortunately, the ticketing process in Indonesia is still widely coloured by the practice of bribery or illegal levies, so in addition to worsening the police imagine this phenomenon also affects the results of Indonesia Corruption Perception Index (IPK) in the world,” said Bobi.
This phenomenon moved Bobi and two of his friends, Tiara Hikmata Billah and Raisa Zahra Fadila, to develop an alternative solution to speeding tickets called the Elang System. The eagle-eyed system works by integrated input data derived from Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) catches and public complaints.
Elang System utilizes Deep Learning technology in CCTV and Artificial Intelligent (AI) in data processing. “The processed data is presenting in web bases and applications with the help of the Laravel Framework,” added Bobi explaining how the system works and the technology used.
Unlike the electronic ticketing system that ever existed, Bobi argues that Elang System still has several advantages. Those advantages are poured in web features such as community complaints feature to report extortion practices, news features that are updated all the time, to various payment features to facilitate the ticketing process for the community.
Under the guidance of PWK ITS Department lecturer, Putu Gede Ariastita ST. MT., Bobi said that the advantages of the Elang System do not stop there alone. In terms of its benefits for the government, CCTV camera catches can also be used to conduct Traffic Counting automatically. So it can collect Average Daily Traffic (LHR) data and Destination Origin Matrix (MAT) data more quickly and accurately.
These data are important in transportation system planning. “If the data is processed, the output can be generated in the form of Decision Support System (DSS) that can help the government in decision making or policy,” said this second-year student.
The innovation initiated by the ION Team managed to gain recognition at the national level by winning a silver medal in Gemastik XIII, in the category of Smart City competition. Gemastik XIII is a competition organized by the National Achievement Center under the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemdikbud) with Telkom University, which took place online time ago.
Speaking of team names, Bobi claims ION is an acronym of ITS Online. The name was chosen because the entire team is a reporter of ITS Online, namely its official news team under the coordination of its Public Communication Unit (UKP). “We are in charge of proclaiming student achievement. That is one of our motivations to achieve,” he concluded. (ra/pan/ITS Public Relations)
