ITS Campus, ITS News – The era of the industrial revolution 4.0 has caused considerable disruption in human activities in various fields, including in the technology development sector. Delivered at the peak of the commemoration of Lustrum XII or the 60th Anniversary of the Sepuluh November Institute of Technology (ITS), Tuesday (10/11), the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, expressed his high hopes for ITS to be at the forefront of technology and science development.
Starting his remarks, President Joko Widodo or commonly called Jokowi, said ITS which has been established 60 years since being signed by the first President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir. Soekarno, believes that there are many great talents and advanced technology produced by ITS for this beloved country.
“I will mention some of them. There are Gesits national electric motorbikes, ferry design for ferry transportation used by ASDP, interior design, and body design for the LRT in Jakarta and Palembang as a result of INKA’s collaboration, including the Raisa robot, which is an assistant robot for hospitals that is much needed in Indonesia for this pandemic era, and certainly, there are many more, “said Jokowi in his speech delivered virtually.
The former Governor of the Special Capital Region, Daerah Khusus Ibukota (DKI) Jakarta also congratulated ITS on celebrating its 60th anniversary. “Congratulations on being creative in developing technology for the country’s advancement,” said Jokowi at the end of his speech.
In line with this, the Indonesian Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Ir. Budi Karya Sumadi also conveyed a big challenge for ITS in realizing future technology to build the nation’s prosperity, especially in the transportation sector. It was communicated in an online scientific oration entitled The Role and Challenges of Future Transportation Technology to Build Nation Prosperity.
According to Budi, the transportation sector has a fundamental role in national development. Apart from being a means of mobility, transportation plays a significant role in the nation’s prosperity. “One of them is the construction of transportation infrastructure that supports connectivity ranging from urban, rural, underdeveloped areas, and the outermost areas in Indonesia,” he explained.
The Former President Director of PT Angkasa Pura (II), explained that the biggest challenge is how to realize sustainable, sustainable transportation and can integrate between modes. Of course, it needs to be supported by high-quality Human Resources (HR).
He continued, innovation and sustainable concepts in the use of technology need to be developed. “This is solely to facilitate all obstacles to society so that they can enjoy long-term results and it is hoped that the nation’s prosperity can be realized,” said him, who is familiarly called Budi.
The Palembang-born minister also acknowledged that ITS had prepared well for future technology. This is evidenced by the achievements of ITS which has won many robots and car competitions with renewable energy which are the pride of Indonesia.
Finally, representing the Ministry of Transportation, Budi is always open to cooperation for the sake of the Indonesian nation in the future. One of them is related to how this innovation can be accepted by the industrial world which can be used by the wider community. So, it can provide high economic value for the Indonesian people. “I am optimistic that what this will do will happen soon, (I) support ITS efforts to collaborate for the glory of Indonesia,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, ITS Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir Mochamad Ashari MEng, explained that if in Lustrum XII the theme was Technology for Prosperity, it means technology for the nation’s prosperity. “During the Covid-19 pandemic that has hit the world, we are grateful that it can still produce various innovations that are of great benefit to society,” said the Professor of Electrical Engineering proudly.
In the Lustrum XII ITS commemoration event, the Nitisastro Number award was also given which fell to Prof. Ir Priyo Suprobo MS Ph.D., ITS Chancellor for the 2007-2011 period, who currently still serves as Chair of the ITS Academic Senate.
