ITS Campus, ITS News – The rapid development of technology today requires scientific collaboration from various fields as a breakthrough to produce innovative technological products. This is evidenced by three students of the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) who are members of the TOLE Team, which carries an innovative product called the Sistem Transportasi Tjerdas.
The team’s main manager, Aulia Rayimas Tinkar with a scientific background in Engineering Physics is assisted by two colleagues, namely Habib Ihza Alamsyah from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Renaka Agusta from the Department of Computer Engineering. The three initiators of the Sistem Transportasi Tjerdas were moved to help reduce traffic congestion through innovative traffic signs.
For their innovative ideas, the team admitted that they initially absorbed ideas from Dr. Totok Soehartarto as the supervisor. Then, the exploration of ideas was carried out in detail, so that it was approved by Dr. Dhany Arifanto as the supervisor in the competition. “Lecturers approve and provide support from beginning to end,” said Aulia Rayimas Tinkar who is familiarly called Ayik.
This innovative idea is recognized as being able to regulate traffic light changes automatically based on road congestion conditions. “This system consists of sensors equipped with Artificial Intelligence (AI), an Internet of Things (IoT) network, and big data,” he explained.
In designing these ideas, the team works according to the portion of their respective duties. Habib, as an AI and IoT engineer, is in charge of designing a system to detect the density ratio of each road. Then, the data will be connected to a microcontroller so that it can control traffic lights.
Furthermore, according to Ayik, the data from image processing will also be connected in real-time on the website and compiled in big data by Renaka, as a web developer and data scientist. It is hoped that this data collection will help the city government analyze considerations in determining a policy.
Within a month of designing the work, continued Ayik, it would be a challenge for the team to work together in an all-online pandemic condition. “However, it is through these conditions that we prove that work can still be done in existing limitations,” he said.
However, Ayik said, the team admitted that they were happy because they had the experience to apply their knowledge in the real world. “We want to build the nation with our portion, as engineers of course we want to solve problems with technology,” said the 2017 class student.
The solidarity and good collaboration of this team were proven through its success in winning third place in the XIII National Student Exhibition in Technology, Information and Communication (Gemastik) 2020, some time ago, in the Smart City category. The team also hopes that this system can later be implemented for the benefit of the community and government in building a smart city in the future. (vi/ris/ITS Public Relations)
