ITS Campus, ITS News –Still commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), the ITS Alumni Association (PP-IKA) Center Organized the 2020 Innovation Challenge and Business Summit (ICBS) event. As well as being the highlight of a series of competitions, this event was also enlivened by a talk show by inviting some experts in the field of innovation and startup, Saturday (21/11).
Broadcast live offline from the Damai Indah Golf Pantai Indah Kapuk area, Jakarta, the annual IKA ITS event was also attended by some important officials. Among others, the Indonesian Minister of Transportation Ir Budi Karya Sumadi, Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) RI Erick Thohir BA MBA, Deputy Governor of East Java Dr. Emil Elestianto Dardak MSc, and ITS Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ir Mochamad Ashari MEng.
In his opening remarks, the General Chairperson of PP IKA ITS Ir Sutopo Kristanto MM said that a series of ICBS 2020 competitions consisting of an innovation challenge, a golf tournament, and a business summit became a place for several teams to provide ideas and innovations in the technology world. “Furthermore, we IKA ITS will create an organization that will jointly make it sustainable,” he said.
The man who is familiarly called Cak Topo revealed that the efforts being carried out are still not perfect. However, as much as possible, IKA ITS remains determined to provide the best for Indonesia.
Cak Topo also revealed the promise of IKA ITS to the previous Minister of Transportation regarding the downstream of innovation which is the main task of alumni. IKA ITS also handed over robot assistance to help treat Covid-19 patients, RAISA. “Therefore, we comply by providing RAISA for use in Jakarta, especially for use at Pelni Hospital Jakarta,” said Cak Topo.
The event was also followed by a procession of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between IKA ITS and PT Aska Detoe Binatama in connection with Erlima’s startup investment and ITS Ocean Farm, which is a fish breeding place to be developed in East Java waters. Not only that, but IKA ITS also signed an MoU with the Indonesian Engineers Association (PII) and the Indonesian Maritime Safety Technology Center.
Cak Topo added, IKA ITS will explore the concept of initiation and the concept of entrepreneurship which is a new movement of the economy initiated by all alumni. “I think without government support what we are trying to do will not happen. Therefore, we would like to thank all the support and support from related parties, “he said.
The Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Ir Budi Karya Sumadi also supports the development of an innovation platform from ITS alumni. Seeing during this pandemic there are so many pending plans, limited work, which shouldn’t just be kept in a drawer. “The government will not remain silent to ensure that all innovation plans owned by the innovators in Indonesia continue to run as they should,” he said.
According to Budi, this is evidenced by the government’s steps to provide subsidies to individuals and developing MSMEs. In line with ITS IKA which certainly supports innovation efforts that can be a tool to develop properly. “For that, I hope it will continue because there are many discoveries of young people, especially ITS students, which can become meaningful hooks for the people and people of Indonesia,” said Budi.
In his remarks, ITS Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ir Mochamad Ashari MEng also expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the participants and ITS alumni who are still supporting and militant towards their alma mater. “I hope, for Lustrum or ITS Dies Natalis in the future, we can be more together, can exchange innovations, complement existing startup innovations,” said the chancellor who is often called Ashari.
Continued with the first session of Talk Title with the discussion of Pandemic, What Can We Do? BUMN Minister Erick Thohir BA MBA explained three things that are currently being done by the Ministry of BUMN, namely developing digital infrastructure for business access, developing marketing access, and capital assistance for MSMEs.
“However, BUMN must be the spearhead for community development, and it is hoped that after the pandemic the Indonesian economy can return to normal and can continue as usual,” said Erick hopefully.
It is the same with the Deputy Governor of East Java, Dr. Emil Elestianto Dardak MSc, who said that with this pandemic, the community should make opportunities and stepping stones to make it even better. “With this pandemic, we are trying to empower existing MSMEs to improve the economy, in building and developing existing innovations,” he explained.

The three of them argue that what needs to be considered is adaptation and collaboration. Because the digital industry is a world that is constantly changing, don’t feel like you have the upper hand to stay relevant, stay hungry so you can survive in this digital industry.
