Kampus ITS, ITS News – In line with higher education goals in building an educated and advanced civilization, the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) again added eight new professors or professors at the same time in the Open Session Inauguration of ITS Professors, Wednesday (25/11). The performance which took place at the ITS Research Center Building was the most significant inauguration in ITS history.
The inauguration procession was broadcast live through the ITS information media because it did not invite guests offline as usual due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In the procession, which was attended directly by the ITS Chancellor and led by the Chair of the ITS Professors’ Board, the eight new professors presented the scientific oration results of the research that had been carried out.
Of the total new professors this time, four of them are lecturers from the Faculty of Science and Data Analytics. It covers various areas of expertise, such as Theoretical Physics, Mathematical Modeling, and Numerical Simulation, Metal Physics, and Inorganic Chemistry of Natural Materials. These fields were presented by Prof. Agus Purwanto, Prof. Chairul Imron, Prof. Triwikantoro, and Prof. Djoko Hartanto.
Through this inauguration, there were also more professors from the ITS Vocational Faculty. He was Prof. Ridho Bayuaji from the Department of Civil Infrastructure Engineering. The latter presented the Potential of Geopolymer Concrete: Environmentally Friendly Concrete and Its Contribution Opportunities to Maritime Infrastructure in Indonesia.
Meanwhile, from the ITS Marine Technology Faculty, Prof. Heri Supomo, an expert in Production Technology and Ship Material in the Naval Architecture Department, has emerged. Prof. Heri delivered his scientific oration entitled Laminated Bamboo as a Future Ship Material Environmentally Friendly, Aesthetic, Renewable, and Sustainable.
Meanwhile, not to forget, the names of new professors from the Informatics Engineering Department emerged. Prof. Tohari Ahmad is his name, who has expertise in the field of Information and Network Security. In his scientific oration, he presented the topic of Reversible Data Hiding Mechanisms to Maintain Data Privacy.
Another new professor inaugurated for the first time was Prof. Must Laksana Guntur, with Vibration Damper Engineering’s expertise from the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The professor who increased the number of professors in the Faculty of Industrial Technology and Systems Engineering started the inauguration with an oration on Wasted Energy Engineering on Vehicle Vibration Absorption Systems.
Chairman of the ITS Professors Board Prof. Dr. Ir Nadjaji Anwar MSc warmly welcomed his new members, who fulfilled the total number of professors inaugurated by ITS up to 132 professors. “This is a big gift because slowly, the portion of ITS professors stepped on 10 percent of the total 966 active lecturers,” he said happily.
The professor who also chairs the Council of Professors for State Universities with Legal Entities (MDGB PTN-BH) also has a mandate so that the Board of Professors can devote their knowledge and be loyal to ITS alma mater. “Of course, we don’t forget that we hope that it will bring blessings and benefits to the family, homeland, and nation,” he said, closing his remarks.
Meanwhile, ITS Rector, Prof. Ir Mochamad Ashari MEng Ph.D., supported what Nadjaji previously said. According to him, getting additional human resources (HR) who formally holds the title of professor will have many implications for ITS. “For example, very much needed human resources for superior professors to support the 16 doctoral programs that we have,” he said.
Besides, the hope is that the number of ITS students at the postgraduate level will also increase and the number of professors this time. Not only that, in terms of student assistance, the chancellor, who is familiarly called Ashari, also encouraged ITS student achievement to increase even further. “Previously, they were not only professors, the students assisted by you, but gentlemen also made many achievements. Especially now (after becoming a professor),” he joked, motivating.
Regarding the improving ranking of ITS, the Department of Electrical Engineering professor is also sure that increasing the number of professors will also help increase ITS contributions to international publications. “The exponential increase in the number of professors, hopefully, will also increase the number of graduate students and the contribution of ITS international publications,” he said excitedly.
Once again, he emphasized that the point reached now is the beginning of the struggle to carry out many more countries’ mandates. “Congratulations and please join the community at the Research Center, Innovative Center, and many other research centers that have been waiting for you,” he concluded.
