ITS Campus, ITS News – Again, the civitas academica of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) initiated an innovation that is beneficial to society, especially fishermen. Seeing the marketing problems in the fishermen’s catch, ITS students initiated a container for marine catches that guarantees an increase in the selling price of the fishermen’s catch.

They are Ilham Kharisma Prayoga, Dewi Septina Br Pelawi, and Sekar Nur Saraswati. The collaboration of three students from the Department of Ocean Engineering, the Department of Information Systems, and the Department of Mathematics are the Dua Lentera Team members. They succeeded in initiating the Coastal House as a forum for community empowerment in Tambak Cemandi Village, Sidoarjo.

The Dua Lentera Team leader, Ilham Kharisma Prayoga, explained that this innovation’s initial idea originated from the large number of fishermen’s catches, which only ended up in collectors, so they had quite low prices. Besides, many catches cannot be sold to collectors due to limited collectors, while the sea catch is abundant. “So this will greatly affect the income of local fishermen,” he added.

Ilham said that based on this problem, he and his team created a forum for all fishermen and Tambak Cemandi Village people. This container is used to empower independently through the production house. “So that the seafood in Tambak Cemandi Village has guaranteed quality by certain market segments,” he said.

Furthermore, Ilham said, the production house that was made was not automatically present alone but would also be equipped with Rumah Marketing. This is part of the Coastal House, which will focus on marketing and overall management of the Coastal House.

According to Ilham, this Marketing House will empower local youth in helping the community and fishers. Because seeing the high capability and level of enthusiasm of the local youth towards village development, later they will receive training. So that in the long term, the Coastal House will be designed independently and managed by the community and fishers in Tambak Cemandi Village with the help of local youth.

Interestingly, it is through this Marketing House that the benefits of this Coastal House come from. Because in this Marketing House, the location of the fishermen’s marine catch branding center is located. So that local people can enjoy the maximum catch independently with the role of local youth in it. “So when the bearers are no longer involved, they can stand alone through the collaboration of fishermen and local youth,” he added.

When asked about the future realization, Ilham explained that the Coastal House, which was initiated, would be run by the bearers for a maximum of five years with the local government’s help. Later, after the assistance is carried out, the community will be ready to stand alone as a local institution or company that functions to manage the sea caught in a more organized manner. “Hopefully, they are also ready to become a supplier of marine catches throughout Indonesia,” he said optimistically.

Thanks to the hard work for almost two months, the Dua Lentera ITS team also produced sweet results. This is because the Coastal House’s idea was able to win second place in a competition entitled Upgrading of Social Awareness (USA), with one of the series being the 2020 National Masterplan Competition some time ago.

In the end, Ilham hopes the idea of ​​a Coastal House he made can help improve the community fishermen’s economy men in Tambak Cemandi Village, Sidoarjo so that the community service program that it does can have an impact on the local community. “Hopefully, this Coastal House can become a new lantern as a step to connect the people of Tambak Cemandi Village,” he concluded hopefully. (Bob/nadh/ITS Public Relations)
