ITS Campus, ITS News – Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings (WUR) by Subject 2021 was released on Wednesday (28/10). Competing globally, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) has again proven its quality as one of the best universities in Indonesia in this ranking.
ITS Senior Manager for World Class University (WCU) affairs Rulli Pratiwi Setiawan ST MSc Ph.D. explained that the scientific fields at ITS which were included in the ranking of THE WUR by Subject 2021 were still the same as the two previous years. Based on 2019 data, ITS is again included in the ranking in the fields of Computer Science, Engineering and Technology, and Physical Science.

In the field of Computer Science, continued Rulli, ITS is ranked 601-800 in the world and ranked third in Indonesia after the University of Indonesia (UI) and the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). ITS got a total score of 22.03 in this field. On the Teaching, criteria got a score of 14.9; Research criteria got a score of 11.9; Citation criteria got a score of 30.3; International Outlook criteria got a score of 43, and the criteria for industrial income got a score of 48.6.
This doctoral alumnus of Hiroshima University, Japan said, in the field of Engineering and Technology, ITS is in the 801-1000 position in the world and the top five in Indonesia. In this field, ITS received a score of 18.1 for the teaching criteria. Then, the research criteria got a score of 9.6; Citation criteria got a score of 15.8; International Outlook criteria got a score of 31.8, and the criteria for industrial income got a score of 53.6. “The Teaching Criteria and International Reputation in Engineering and Technology have increased compared to THE WUR by Subject 2020,” he said.

In the assessment criteria, according to Rulli, the fields of Engineering and Technology and Computer Science have five criteria with the same percentage of assessment. Namely, Teaching 30 percent, Research 30 percent, Citation 27.5 percent, International Views 7.5 percent, and Industry Income 5 percent.
Besides, in the field of Pysichal Science, ITS is ranked 801-1000 in the world and ranked third in Indonesia. The total score obtained by ITS was 16.44. In this field, ITS got a score of 11.4 for the teaching criteria. Then, the research criteria got a score of 9.8; the Citation criteria got a score of 20.4; the International Outlook criteria got a score of 32.4, and the criteria for industrial income got a score of 41.4.
Meanwhile, the percentage of assessment in this field, added Rulli, is different from the two other fields. The percentage shares are Teaching 27.5 percent, Research 27.5 percent, Citations 35 percent, International Views 7.5 percent, and Industry Revenue 2.5 percent.
The Teaching Criteria and International Outlook are further divided into several indicators, one of which is a reputation survey. “There are still other indicators in the Teaching and Reputation criteria that come from the submitted data,” added this Urban and Regional Planning lecturer. Such as the ratio of faculty to students, the ratio of doctoral students to undergraduate students, the ratio of doctoral degrees to academic staff, research and industry income, and the level of research productivity.
According to Rulli, the criteria for Teaching, International Views, and Citation must receive attention to increasing ITS position in the next ranking. It takes the efforts of researchers at ITS to improve research collaboration and international collaboration, as well as publications in international journals category reputed to be able to boost the citation.
Besides, breakthrough steps also need to be synergized from various directorates at ITS. Not only from the Directorate of Global Partnership (DKG) that oversees WCU affairs, but also from the Directorate of Research and Community Service (DRPM), Directorate of Postgraduate and Academic Development, Directorate of Education, Directorate of Human Resources and Organizations (DSDMO), and the entire community ITS academics. “Various related directorates need to jointly move the wheels of internationalization.
