ITS Campus, ITS News – Six lecturers from the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) have been selected and trusted to be new members of the Academy of Engineering Sciences (AIR) – Indonesian Academy of Sciences (AIPI). This further proves that ITS’s role in the world of engineering has been recognized nationally.

AIPI was formed as a scientific institution with the authority to provide opinions, suggestions, and considerations on science and technology matters to the government and society. AIPI is known as an independent institution that brings together leading Indonesian scientists.

Apart from serving as a provider of suggestions to the government and society, the organization initiated by the late Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie has the task of spurring the development of science and its excellence. Namely through scientific conferences and policy discussion forums, publications, and national and international relations. With such a big task, it’s no wonder that AIPI membership is considered very exclusive.

Inaugurated through Law No. 8 In 1990, this organization consisted of leading Indonesian scientists. AIPI members are selected based on their track record of scientific excellence and are the highest honors in science and technology in Indonesia. Within AIPI, experts are categorized into five commissions in science: basic, medical, engineering, social, and cultural.

Prof Ir I Ketut Aria Pria Utama MSc PhD, anggota AIPI pertama dari ITS yang sekarang menjabat menjadi Sekretaris AIR-AIPI

Prof. Ir, I Ketut Aria Utama Pria MSc Ph.D., the first AIPI member from ITS, is now the Secretary of AIR-AIPI.

Since its establishment in 1990, Prof. Ir, I Ketut Aria Pria Utama MSc Ph.D., or familiarly called Prof. IKAP, is the first member of AIPI who came from ITS was inaugurated in 2015. Five years later, ITS could achieve an extraordinary achievement with the election of six new figures who will adorn the AIR-AIPI membership.

Mentioned by the Secretary of AIR-AIPI, who is also one of the Vice Presidents of RINA Regional Asia, the six names are Prof. Ir Priyo Suprobo MSc Ph.D., Prof. Ir Eko Budi Djatmiko MSc Ph.D., Prof. Dr. Ketut Buda Artana ST MSc, Prof. Ir I Nyoman Pujawan MEng Ph.D., Prof. Dr. Ir Gamantyo Hendrantoro Ph.D., and Dr. Muhammad Nur Yuniarto ST.

The six new faces of AIR-AIPI from ITS have significant nicks. First, Prof. Ir Priyo Suprobo, MSc Ph.D. is an expert figure in structure, which became a Civil Engineering ITS professor at the age of 43 years and served as ITS chancellor in 2011.

Second, Prof. Ir Eko Budi Djatmiko, MSc Ph.D. who is a lecturer in the Department of Marine Engineering ITS who deals in the world of the hydrodynamics of marine buildings that have crossed the globe in Indonesia. Eko is experienced as a member of the Ship Stability Evaluation Team appointed by the Ministry of Transportation, the head of the Belanak FPSO Design Review and Verification Team appointed by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources heavily involved in other national and international teams.

The third name, Prof. Dr. Ketut Buda Artana ST MSc, is the figure behind the ITS Automatic Identification System (AISITS), a warning application system for hazards that may occur in marine installations that have been widely used in Indonesia. Fourth, Prof. Ir I Nyoman Pujawan MEng Ph.D. is a professor of supply chain engineering at ITS and is also the President of the International Supply Chain Education Alliance (ISCEA) and the Indonesian Institute of Supply Chain and Logistics (ISLI).

The fifth is Prof. Dr. Ir Gamantyo Hendrantoro, Ph.D., a telecommunications expert who researches wireless communication systems, networks, and radars. Gamantyo was the youngest professor at ITS when he was inaugurated at the age of 37 in 2008. His last name is Dr. Muhammad Nur Yuniarto ST, a mechanical engineering lecturer who has developed energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly electric vehicles for about a decade.

“Being elected as a member of AIPI is not an easy thing,” said IKAP. This is because AIPI needs scientists with only dozens of studies or scientific journals indexed by Scopus. More than that, AIPI is looking for scientific figures whose work plays a role in developing and developing human resources. Also, the member election period is quite long, currently, it is still around every five years in recruiting new members.

The ITS shipping engineering expert welcomed the arrival of these six new ITS lecturers in the AIR-AIPI membership. The six ITS lecturers’ nicks prove that ITS capacity and contribution in competing in the national to the international arena. “And the increasing number of AIPI members from ITS also means that the recognition of the impact that ITS has given is also increasing,” he said proudly.
