ITS Campus, ITS News – Students of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) are again gaining achievements in international scale competitions. This time, five delegates from the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) ITS Student Chapter (SC) won six awards in the Boreyes 2021 competition, last Saturday (13/3).

Head of Delegates SPE ITS, M Fadhlan Rafi explained, SPE ITS sent nine teams to this event. Five of the teams have won the award. First is the Gold Digger team consisting of M Amroedhia DE (Geophysical Engineering 2019), Fitra Muhammad A (Materials and Metallurgical Engineering 2019), Alhafiz Taufiqul H (Chemical Engineering 2019), Fitria Sabrani T (Ocean Engineering 2019), and Alvina Choirun N (Industrial Chemical Engineering 2017).

They succeeded in dominating the Oil Rig Design Competition (ORDC) by creating a more stable oil rig design innovation. “This team designed the rig (offshore building, red) by reducing the effects of environmental loads such as sea waves and so on,” said Fadhlan.

Still, in the same competition, an Appomatox team came home with two awards at the same time. The design of the semi-submersible rig platformbelonging to Abdul Quddus Al Kahfi (Chemical Engineering 2020), Ahmad Qaedi Luthfi (Ocean Engineering 2020), Firtya Kinanti Ramadhini (Engineering Physics 2020), Muhammad Ilhan Baihaqi (Geophysical Engineering 2020), and Mega Ristri Maurina (Engineering Marine 2020) won the third place in ORDC as well as the favorite winner.

Furthermore, there was the Waluyo team who won a second-place through the Case Study Competition. Consisting of Nicodemus Sintong Oloan, Christoforus Marchiavelly, and Nauval Nurahmad, this team completed a case study challenge. In this challenge, the three Ocean Engineering students brought solutions for the development of gas pipeline infrastructure that connects Kalimantan Island with Java Island.

On the other hand, in the Smart Competition, the Geominerba team won third place. It was M Reyhan Nabiha, Alwan Muhammad Rasyid, and Haikal Rahman from the 2019 class of Geophysical Engineering who managed to compete in this kind of quiz event from Boreyes 2021 which was held online.

Finally, the Avengers team won the favorite place through the Paper and Poster Competition. This team consists of Dafa Bayu Putranto (Engineering Physics 2018), Cigo Ageng Wicaksono (Ocean Engineering 2018), and Carollina Kusumawidjaya (Engineering Physics 2018). In their paper, they discussed the Microbial EOR study (restoring petroleum by utilizing microbes) which was conducted in Shengli Oilfield, China. “The three of them are trying to estimate the application of similar technology if applied in Alaska,” said Fadhlan.

Fadhlan explained, Boreyes 2021 itself is a competition held by SPE Universitas Padjadjaran SC. The event, which carries the theme Reinforce New Era of Oil and Gas Industry, was held online on March 11-13. “This competition is divided into four competitions, namely ORDC, Paper and Poster Competition, Smart Competition, and Case Study Competition,” he explained.

This Ocean Engineering student revealed that they had conducted training long before the start of the competition. “We have prepared general training for competitions such as Boreyes and others,” he said.

The training itself is a facility provided by SPE ITS SC to the contest delegation registrants. According to Fadhlan, their coach is a senior member who has experienced winning previous competitions.

Furthermore, SPE ITS SC will delegate another student team to take part in the 2021 Petrolide competition held by ITS. “I hope that in the future SPE ITS SC can be more developed, professional, and useful for the members,” concluded this 2018 class student. (pan/ITS Public Relations)
