ITS Campus, ITS News – The Chevalier dans L’Ordre des Palmes Academiques Award was given to a lecturer at the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Prof. Dr. Ir Ria Asih Aryani MEng, by the French Ambassador to Indonesia, Olivier Chambard. This proud award was given for his contribution to helping send double degree students from Indonesia. Who wants to continue their education at the Masters and Doctoral level in France.
L’Ordre des Palmes Academiques is a world prestigious award conferred by the French Government to academics from all over the world who have made contributions to cooperation between France and a related country in education and culture.
One of the titles in this award is Chevalier or knight, which was announced by French Prime Minister Jean Castex, given to Ria on March 4, 2021. Unmitigated, to hold this knight title, it would take at least 10’s years of service or extraordinary achievements.
Ria received this award directly on March 24, 2021, at the French Consulate Office in Surabaya. Ria is considered to be instrumental in guiding students at the S2 and S3 levels. Especially students of the Civil Engineering department at ITS in taking the Indonesian-French double degree education program. “I have sent at least 20 students of S2 double degree program to continue their education to France,” said the former Vice-Director of ITS Postgraduate Program for the 2011-2015 period.
This woman who has also won the Prix Mahar Schützenberger award also often brings in academics from France to give guest lectures in Indonesia and is actively involved in researching in collaboration with French researchers. “I have established the cooperation program for both sending students and research with the French since 1994,” said the lecturer of the ITS Civil Engineering doctoral education program who will be inaugurated as a professor on March 31.
Finally, the Ecole Entrale de Paris alumnus who was born in Yogyakarta in 1956 hopes that this achievement can become a gateway that will expand and facilitate Indonesian and French cooperation programs to improve the quality of education of Indonesian students. “In the future, I will try to send more Indonesian students to take master’s and doctoral education to France and invite teachers from France to share their knowledge,” he concluded enthusiastically.
