ITS Campus, ITS News – Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) students will never stop making the name of their alma mater proud every time they compete both nationally and internationally. This time, it was honored by Kennard Mahib Bariumanto, who won the title of Most Outstanding Delegates in the Ethics Model United Nation (MUN) 2021 event with a discussion entitled WHO: Planning for The Prevention of Ethical Issues in Vaccination of Covid-19, recently.
Ethics MUN is a sub-company registered under Ethics for Education in the UK. MUN aims to promote ethical debate by global thinkers to develop workable solutions in solving world crises. The theme this time is Rebuilding New Aspiration Preparation of the World for the New Phase.
Kean, his nickname, said that he had to compete with participants from several countries such as Malaysia, India, and New Zealand to get this title. In this online event, each participant must act as a delegation of a country at the United Nations (UN) conference. “I got the task to become a delegation from China, especially for the World Health Organization (WHO),” he added.
In lifting his role as a WHO delegation from China, Kean discussed the big topic of Ethical Issues Prevention Planning in Covid-19 Vaccination, a critical issue in today’s global world. More profoundly, he discussed the uneven distribution of vaccines to hoax news about vaccines that made people doubt.
On the first day of the competition, this 2019 ITS Information Systems Department student managed to amaze the jury with his appearance. His diplomatic ability, which can invite other delegates to support the prevention of ethical problems with the Covid-19 vaccination, is one technique. Apart from that, his character was also very distinctive, namely being able to live out his role as a delegation from China.
As a forum for ITS students who are interested in participating in the UN session simulation event, ITS MUN Club has trained and prepared their delegation since two weeks before the competition. Kean and other ITS delegates accompanied by mentors prepared their various needs, such as research and solutions to the problem topics to be discussed. “Even though it is tiring, MUN is still fun for me,” said the student from Jakarta.
The student, who is also a staff at Click ITS, shared his difficulties during the preparation process. The demand to bring data and research-based solutions and the busyness of lectures was a challenge for him. “I dedicate time to research solutions according to the topic for about two days to maximize everything,” he explained.
As a thirsty student for experience, Kean still intends to participate in the international MUN event, which has a more considerable scope. The plan is close; he will join three friends as ITS International Delegates for the MUN event in Singapore this June. “I still intend to take care of the ITS MUN Club at this time and maybe later in the field of film,” he concluded.
