ITS Campus, ITS News – Seeing the actions and assistance of the community in responding to natural disasters, Indonesia needs to improve the quality and quality of disaster management in terms of science and technology. Departing from this, the Minister of Social Affairs (Mensos) RI Dr. (HC) Ir Tri Rismaharini MT held a joint discussion as well as a visit to the campus of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Saturday (17/4).
Located at the ITS Rectorate Building, the former Mayor of Surabaya revealed that the community and young people in Indonesia had been maximized when there is a disaster in Indonesian territory. From there, many things need to be improved and reviewed for prevention. “Therefore, we discussed the design, one of which is the design of a disaster-resistant house, such as floods, earthquakes, and so on,” explained the woman who is familiarly called Risma.
This, according to Risma, is also supported by Indonesia’s location in the ring of fire. Risma continued, based on the mapping, it turned out that several areas were traversed by the megathrust route and could also have been hit by three disasters. “Areas that are traversed by this route can experience flooding, volcanic eruptions, and of course, earthquakes that have the potential for a tsunami,” she said.
Along with continuing the friendship, Risma hopes that experts can support this plan at ITS. Risma admitted that she was delighted with various related knowledge because this design had been designed by ITS.
In the future, disaster management will consist of houses and be equipped with technology-based facilities. “For example, if a flood-prone area is equipped with a boat, if it is prone to earthquakes, it is equipped with a tent, and so on. ITS said that there are experts here (at ITS, red) who are ready to handle, ” she said in front of the media crew after the discussion.
Supporting the Minister of Social Affairs’ statement, ITS Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ir Mochamad Ashari MEng explained, if ITS is currently helping the program of the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) and helping communities related to disasters. mapping of this disaster management design has been carried out according to the area with the potential for natural disasters. “Anti-disaster house design-based countermeasures have also adjusted to the conditions, which will be studied further by experts,” said the professor of Electrical Engineering. ITS Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ir Mochamad Ashari MEng during a discussion with the Minister of Social Affairs at the ITS Rectorate Building
Ashari said that this program is still in the stage of being reported to the president first. The program launched by the Minister of Social Affairs also collaborates with other universities such as Airlangga University (Unair) and the University of Indonesia (UI). “This collaboration also adjusts experts in related fields, such as ITS with their technology, Unair and UI might help in their humanities,” he concluded,” he concluded.
