ITS Campus, ITS News – The change in learning methods that were initially face-to-face offline turned into online during this pandemic period gave ideas to various new impacts, one of which was the use of application technology in the teaching and learning process. In response to this situation, the Student Study Service for Community (KKN Abmas) team of the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), consisting of lecturers and students, conducted special training aimed to the high school teachers.
The KKN Abmas team from the Department of Information Technology ITS held training to improve high school teachers’ ability to use Miro and Quizizz applications as learning platforms. The event involved more than 50 high school teachers from various regions, and the training was conducted online using the Zoom application for three days.
In the implementation process, this KKN has two main agendas. The first one is the training on using the Miro and Quizizz platforms for online learning, followed by one week of post-activity mentoring to improve skills. “Modules and learning videos were distributed as preparation material before the training day,” said Shafira Firdausi, one of the team members.
Further explained, there is a final evaluation test using the Quizizz platform to assess participants’ understanding. In the future, participants who get scores below the minimum score will be declared unsuccessful and will be given assistance and coordination in monitoring the implementation of the training results. “Fortunately, all participants who took part in this evaluation got satisfactory scores,” he said.
Shafira said that the activity that directly impacts the participants was the increase in their skills for distance teaching. She hopes that it can produce a more interactive and maximum quality of learning. “Improving the ability of teachers will have an impact on increasing productivity and quality of online learning,” he said.
In the planning process, the team consisting of eight lecturers and seven students had considerations regarding selecting platforms as teaching materials. Choosing Miro and Quizizz aims to create a more interactive online learning process for high school students.
The availability of the virtual whiteboard feature on Miro will give the same impression as offline collaboration using the whiteboard at school. And the existence of a learning evaluation feature for students on Quizizz can minimize the risk of cheating in the process. “Through this training, the interaction of teachers and students during the learning process will be more interesting,” he assured.
Seeing the high enthusiasm of the participants during the training, the committee will carry out a targeted mentoring process so that teachers can utilize their existing abilities or expertise. “In the future, similar activities will also be carried out that provide useful skills or other skills,” said Shafira about the follow-up plan.
