ITS Campus, ITS News – Institut Teknologi Sepuluh November (ITS) students again made achievements in the Indonesian Planner School Association (ASPI) award event, which took place at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center, Thursday (2/9). This time, the studio group from the ITS Urban and Regional Planning Department (PWK) won first place in the Regional Design category in the event.
ASPI is an organization that is a forum for gathering planning schools in Indonesia. Every two years, ASPI holds an award event to appreciate PWK students throughout Indonesia who have the best planning studio work. This is done to accommodate the ideas of the younger generation regarding the development of planning in Indonesia.
The ITS team, chaired by Ahimsa Fabiansa, consists of six people. These include Vinka Sisriyani Oktaviola, Adella Fajrin Nafiah, Shinta Ulwiya, Fandhi Al Idrus Dwi Saputra, Annis Ratiningsih, and Rafif Atthariqal Akbar, who are students of 2019 ITS PWK Department.
By carrying out the concept of Banjararum Village Development as Sustainable Agrotourism, which was guided by Dr. Prananda Navitas ST MSc and Ardy Maulidy Navastara ST MT, this team managed to get the first place as the best studio work in the event. Ahimsa said that the planned area is part of Banjararum Village, Kulon Progo Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region Province, with 9.6 hectares.
Ahimsa continued, the regional election was supported by the general policies and planning. The Kulon Progo Regional Spatial Plan (RTRW) for 2012-2032 and the Master Plan for Regional Tourism Development Number 9 in 2015 both mutually reinforce that Banjararum Village, Kalibawang District, Kulon Progo Regency can be developed as a basis for agricultural commodities supported by tourism or agro-tourism.
An overview of the Banjararum Village Development Concept as Sustainable Agrotourism by the ITS DK-01 PWK Team
Judging from the local potential, most of the residents of Banjararum Village make a living as farmers or planters. In addition, residents have community characteristics that still maintain historical values that elevate local culture. “There are many cultural associations such as jatilan, hadrah, ketoprak, and others.” said the student who also serves as the Head of the Department of Strategic Studies of the ITS Planology Student Association.
Therefore, in this area planning studio, Ahimsa revealed that his team wanted to integrate agro-tourism that raised the value of local potential. The highlighted local potential is taken from the architectural aspect of the building and the existence of a place for cultural performances. “In addition, by providing a food court and souvenir center, the community can develop local products with higher economic value,” he explained.
The architectural style applied to the design of this area is a combination of typical Javanese architecture and tropical architecture. The architectural style raised is shown in the use of the roof with the concept of a saddle and shield, the emphasis on solid wood material accents, to the application of cross circulation in every room. “This is the hallmark of Banjararum agro-tourism compared to other agro-tourism,” he explained.
Ahimsa emphasized that this area planning has several advantages: the integration of tourism and agro development based on the local potential to answer the Village’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) challenges. This is achieved through community empowerment by existing local communities and commodities and using regional designs with a distinctive Javanese style.

“In addition, this planning is also in line with the policy direction and planning of Kulon Progo and uses several relevant planning analyzes, namely the analysis of Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats (SWOT) and site analysis,” he added.
Finally, Ahimsa hopes this idea can become a development study for Banjararum Village planning as sustainable agro-tourism. “In addition, we also hope that this victory can be a motivation for other PWK students in making innovations related to planning concepts that are implementable as well as solutions,” he concluded.
