ITS Campus, ITS News – Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) students continue to echo the alma mater’s name in various national and international competitions. Another brilliant achievement record was presented again, this time coming from three ITS students who were members of the Chainers2627 Team who won first place in the DHL Logistic Case Competition, which was held online, Thursday (9/9).
Mohamad Qutbudin Annauvali, Team Leader of Chainers2627 said, the DHL Logistic Case Competition is the first Logistic Case Competition (Logic) aimed at students and young professionals. This competition was held in collaboration between DHL Supply Chain Indonesia and ITS Master of Technology Management (MMT). “In this competition, participants are challenged to come up with innovative ideas in providing practical solutions to problems related to Supply Chain,” he explained.
The student, who is often called Qutbudin, revealed that participants had to go through several stages in this competition. Participants will be given the first case regarding the Global Supply Chain of Vaccines and Medicines in the preliminary round. “From the preliminary round, 30 best teams from universities throughout Indonesia will be selected to continue in the semifinals,” he added.
Qutbuddin continued, in the semifinal stage, participants will be given a second case regarding the Global Clinical Supply Chain in Pfizer. After passing, participants will be given guidance by DHL Supply Chain Indonesia and MMT ITS to provide feedback on their innovations. “After each team revised their innovation, the competition continued with a presentation in front of DHL Supply Chain Indonesia and MMT ITS,” said the student from the Department of System and Industrial Engineering.
Answering the given case, the Chainers2627 Team divided vaccine distribution problems into strategic and operational issues. Strategic matters can determine how the vaccine allocation can be spread evenly throughout the region. “We use logistics regression to estimate the number of people infected with the virus from each area and allocate vaccines when they are available,” said Qutbuddin.
Meanwhile, this fourth-year student explained that operational problems were related to the distribution of vaccines from vaccine reception centers to other cities. “Our team uses the P-median and the Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP) to find distribution routes so that with this innovation, the delivery process will be more efficient and structured,” he explained.
Together with Qutbuddin, this team consists of two other students of the Department of System Engineering and Industry class 2017, namely Faizal Putra Budimas and Shodiqul Rizal Al Azis. “By using Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) in Microsoft Excel, we were able to demonstrate how to use the VRP and P-median models in the presentation session to lead us to win first place,” said Qutbuddin proudly.
In addition to the winning title that was brought home, the Chainers2627 Team also had the opportunity to have a shortcut recruitment process for the Management Trainee (MT) position at DHL Supply Chain Indonesia. Responding to their proud achievements, Qutbuddin expressed hope that in the future, their innovations can help accelerate the achievement of herd immunity and vaccine distribution in Indonesia.
