ITS Campus, ITS News – Nine teams from the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh November (ITS) are ready to compete in six categories in the 2021 National Unmanned Fast Boat Contest (KKCTBN) which will be held at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) on 21 – 24 October 2021. Officially released by the ITS Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ir Mochamad Ashari MEng at the ITS Rectorate Building, Monday (18/10), ITS sent nine teams in six categories to be contested at the 2021 KKCTBN.

Six categories at this prestigious national event organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology include the Ship Prototype Division with the Autonomous Submarine Surface Vehicle (ASSV) and Fuel Engine Remote Control (FERC) categories, which were attended by two teams from Barunastra ITS. and Electric Remote Control (ERC) by the DNA Hydrone ITS team.

The Submarine Design category was followed by the Banyubramanta team, the DNA Osten team, and the Nawasena team. Then, in the Offshore Ship Design category, the Nawasena team and the DNA Hydrone team were. Finally, in the Free Seas category, a team of representatives from Nawasena participated.

In his remarks, ITS Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ir Mochamad Ashari MEng provided briefing and enthusiasm for the teams that will compete in Malang. “Of course, there will be a continuation for students who excel, and we will also give awards for students who are proud of the name of ITS,” he said.

The Chancellor, usually called Ashari, also thanked the lecturers who accompanied the students in competing in the 2021 KKCBTN. “We are very grateful and indebted to the lecturers who have accompanied their students, and good luck to the students in the 2021 KKCTBN,” he said.

Meanwhile, Andreas Raja Goklas Sitorus, General Manager (GM) of the ITS Barunastra Team, said that for the 2021 KKCTBN, the ITS Barunastra team needed approximately three months of preparation to be ready to be contested. “To test the ship and prepare for the race well, we always evaluate the ship’s performance through trials every day,” said the student, who is often called Andre.

To complete its mission as a patrol boat, the Barunastra team, with its ship, Arlong 001, which is in the Fuel Engine Remote Control (FERC) category, uses a monohull hull by considering the aspects of maneuverability, ship stability, and ship resistance. In addition, this ship is also equipped with a missile launcher using pneumatic so that the missile can be fired at high speed and accuracy.

In addition to the FERC category, Barunastra also launched the Nala Orca ship as an Autonomous Submarine Surface Vehicle category ship with a mission as national defense equipment. In this year’s KKCTBN competition, participants must design the part of the ship to be 70 percent in the water and 30 percent on the surface. In order to complete this mission, ITS Barunastra launched the Nala Orca with a unique hull to increase the stability of the ship at rest and maneuver.

Meanwhile, Anak Agung Madya Kusuma Dewa, as the GM of the Nawasena Team, said that his team had learned from his experience at the 2020 KKCBTN and the competition at the Worldwide Ferry Safety Association (WFSA). “We created a platform, web, and team management application to be streamlined, and we prepare presentations carefully so that they are even better than presentations in previous competitions,” said the 2018 student from the Department of Marine Engineering, Faculty of Marine Technology (FTK).
