ITS Campus, ITS News – The Institut Teknologi Sepuluh November (ITS) Real Work Lecture Team (KKN) collaborated with the Community Service Team from Airlangga University (Unair) and the National Development University (UPN) Veterans of East Java to go directly to locations affected by the eruption of Mount Semeru. The East Java state university (PTN) collaboration KKN team departed from the ITS Robotics Center Building to the joint post with the University of Jember (Unej) in Lumajang Regency, Monday (20/12).
The eruption of Mount Semeru has had a significant impact on the lives of Lumajang and its surroundings. Through the humanitarian project KKN Collaboration of PTN Jatim Cares Semeru, as many as 30 ITS students accompanied by three Field Supervisors (DPL) and 14 Unair students with four DPL and 20 East Java Veterans UPN students with three DPLs went directly to the affected locations to provide genuine assistance.
The assistance provided was in learning and literacy assistance for affected students, distribution and logistics management, environmental surveys, and mapping of potential disaster-resilient villages for six months. “In addition to having a positive impact on our affected brothers and sisters, this program is also able to build an inter-campus collaboration ecosystem,” said the Head of the ITS Community Service Sub-directorate Lalu Muhamad Jaelani ST MSc PhD on the sidelines of the team’s release.
The ITS Geomatics Engineering Department lecturer, who is familiarly called Lalu, added that later the Collaborative KKN team of PTN Jatim Peduli Semeru would work on the east side of Lumajang, namely in Candipuro and Pasirian sub-districts. All volunteers present in Lumajang were divided into two big teams, namely those on the east side and the west side. “This is due to the disconnection of access to the bridge that connects the two locations,” he explained.
On the same occasion, the Director of Research and Community Service (DRPM) ITS Agus Muhamad Hatta ST MSi PhD was also present to release the departure of the group of the East Java PTN Collaboration KKN team. The ITS Physics Engineering Department lecturer, who is familiarly called Hatta, expressed his gratitude to all students and DPL willing to participate in this social action. “Congratulations on duty, all volunteers, obey all existing protocols, and hopefully they will be given safety until the task period is over,” Hatta ordered in his speech.
ITS students who participated in this humanitarian activity also expressed their hopes. Muhammad Alvin Ali Fikri from the ITS Geomatics Engineering Department hopes that this activity can ease the burden on the affected community. It was continued by ITS Materials and Metallurgical Engineering Department student Febrina Fahma Rizky who is also a Peduli Semeru volunteer who believes that this program is an opportunity for her to contribute to her hometown.
Furthermore, DPL from Unair Ikhsan Rosyid Mujahidul Anwari SS MA stated that he was happy to participate in this humanitarian event and collaborate again with other PTNs. In his remarks, Ihksan said that the Unair KKN team would only join for three days as the location observation stage in this wave of social action and will participate again on January 17 with 40 Unair students.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Center for Community Service & Community Service at UPN Veterans East Java, Dr Zainal Abidin Achmad SSos MSi MEd, who participated as DPL in the Care for Semeru activity, hopes that in the future, this collaboration can continue to have a positive impact on the people of Indonesia. “Here we have become one unit regardless of the name of the institution, but keep your name in the field,” he said.
