ITS Campus, ITS News – Three teams from the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh November (ITS) achieved brilliant achievements in international competitions. The three successful teams recently brought home two gold medals and one bronze medal at the Indonesia International Applied Science Project Olympiad (I2ASPO), organized by the Indonesian Young Scientist Association (IYSA).

This international level competition was participated by 280 teams from 14 different countries. In collaboration with the ITS Faculty of Science and Data Analytics (FSAD), IYSA held this competition to hone the ability of Indonesian students to innovate products that can be used by the wider community and can contribute to solving several problems in Indonesia.

One of the teams led by Farhan Fadlurrahman Sutrisno managed to win a gold medal in the Waste Treatment category with Integrated Machinery Plastic Waste Cleanser (IMAN) innovation. IMAN’s creation is motivated by the problem of the high amount of plastic waste that pollutes Indonesian waters. “IMAN is a robot that searches and destroys plastic waste in the ocean that is designed to be integrated by the internet of things (IoT),” explained the student of the ITS Mechanical Engineering Department.

Farhan and four other colleagues, namely Zara Ismi Nuraini (Department of Mechanical Engineering), Epindonta Ginting (Department of Mechanical Engineering), Yohanes Maruli Arga Septianus (Department of Materials Engineering), and Muhammad Zainal Afandi Loleh (Department of Chemical Engineering), hope that their team’s innovations can be realized. to solve the waste problem in Indonesia’s oceans. “IMAN can facilitate the decomposition of plastic waste without having to collect and move it to another place,” explained the young man who was born in Depok in 2002.

The team that also won a gold medal in the IoT and Its Applications category was the team chaired by Stella Aldora. Together with his four colleagues, Ilham Wahyu (Department of Electrical Engineering), Maulana Yoga Pratama (Department of System and Industrial Engineering), Muhammad Dzakwan Nabil (Department of Mechanical Engineering), and Farhan Dzikriansyah (Department of Mechanical Engineering), brought the innovation of Hydroponic Technology for Optimal Cultivation (HEROIC). “This technology-based product is intended to integrate fish cultivation systems and hydroponic plant cultivation,” said the student of the ITS Industrial and Systems Engineering Department.

Representing the ITS Bramunastya team, Stella explained that HEROIC utilizes ammonia from fish waste channelled into nutrients for hydroponic plants, where the distribution is done automatically with control via a smartphone application. “Hopefully, this technology can be implemented to answer the problems of the aquaponics system in Indonesia,” said this 2020 student.

On the same occasion, one of the ITS teams also managed to win a bronze medal in the Energy category. The team led by Qurratul Ain Farahiyah raised the innovation of processing rice straw waste using bacteria in Lapindo mud into electrical energy through the Microbial Fuel Cell (MFC) method. “Straw waste in Indonesia has not been fully utilized, even though it has the potential to be developed as renewable energy,” said the ITS Chemical Engineering Department student who is familiarly called Fara.

Together with his four team members, namely Akbar Krisna Wandana (Department of Instrumentation Engineering), Cherish Global Ethnic (Department of Chemical Engineering), Dwi Mayasari (Department of Chemical Engineering), and Ramadhita Putra Purnomo (Department of Chemical Engineering), Fara hopes that the ideas that his team has innovated can be investigated Furthermore. So that it is also expected to be able to solve energy problems that are economical and environmentally friendly in Indonesia. (ITS Public Relation)
