ITS Campus, ITS News – In the last few days, the Indonesian people have been shocked by the news of the death of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (MWA) of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) Prof. Dr. Ir KH Mohammad Nuh DEA. However, the news has been confirmed as fake news or a hoax by the ITS family.
The Head of the ITS Public Communication Unit (UKP), Dr. Rahmatsyam Lakoro SSn MT, said that this fake news was initially sent via a WhatsApp (WA) group by displaying a screenshot of a request to confirm whether the news was true or not. “Who made it in the first place, I don’t know exactly,” responded the ITS Visual Communication Design (DKV) lecturer.
The lecturer who is familiarly called Ramok responded that the news that was spread was misinformation. Either intentionally or unintentionally. Ramok also argued that the sender did not intend to spread the news for personal gain. “However, by sending a screenshot to another WhatsApp group, it is not the correct step to confirm,” he said.
Therefore, in order to avoid misinformation in the future, the doctoral alumnus of Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) appealed to netizens to always filter the information they get before redistributing it. One of the efforts to filter information is to check the information on official websites that can be accounted for. “If you want to check the truth of the news regarding Prof. Nuh (Prof Dr. Ir KH Mohammad Nuh DEA, ed), you should check on the ITS channel or other official institutions,” he responded.
Furthermore, Ramok said that the condition of the former Minister of Education and Culture (Mendikbud) was currently in good health and carrying out normal activities. Not only that, Prof. Nuh’s wife, Dr. Layly Rahmawati, also emphasized that Prof. Nuh is still healthy and active. “Prof Nuh still has a lot of mandates to carry out,” said Layly.
Finally, Ramok advised netizens that over time, the flow of information will flow rapidly. If you can’t process it properly, it will be detrimental to many related parties. “Therefore, I hope that netizens can be more careful in processing information. If it’s already done, it’s better to clarify,” he reminded him.(AJ/ITS Public Relations)
