Campus ITS, ITS News – The Chancellor of the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) Prof. Dr. Ir Mochamad Ashari MEng received a prestigious award from the Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology (ASSCAT) the Philippines. Interestingly, ITS is the only ASSCAT foreign partner institution to receive the award.
The award obtained by the number one person at ITS is the Presidential Award Category Global Partner. In addition to the chancellor, the Junior Supervisor Short Program of the ITS Global Partnership Directorate (DKG) Muhammad Wahyu Islami Pratama Maondu ST also received an award from ASSCAT, namely the Awards and Incentive for Service Excellence (PRAISE).
The awards which were handed over virtually, in early March, were given for the excellent cooperation and contribution from ITS which was seen as being able to support the development and progress of ASSCAT. Among other things related to innovation, efficiency, integrity, and productivity in public services.
The award was given through a ceremonial event entitled Madiyaw Award and Recognition 2022 which was held in the Philippines. ASSCAT is one of the Philippines’ agricultural and technology universities and is a global partner of ITS that has been building collaborations since 2020.
Responding to the award he received, the rector who is familiarly called Ashari said that this award is a form of ASSCAT’s appreciation for ITS’s contribution as a partner who not only supports but also provides many opportunities for ASSCAT to continue to grow. “The award was given by ASSCAT Philippines in the framework of its 27th anniversary as an appreciation for cooperation with ITS,” said the rector who was born in Sidoarjo in 1965.
The professor of Electrical Engineering said that ITS’s role was manifested in various activities with ASSCAT that had been carried out together. The synergies between the two universities are intertwined in internationalization agendas such as the Community and Technological Camp (CommTECH), Student Mobility, Guest Lecture Series (GLS), Global Learning Program (GLP), and the Merdeka Campus program.
Furthermore, as an element that always supports the internationalization program, Ashari also expressed his gratitude to the Director of ITS Global Partnership Dr Maria Anityasari ST ME, ITS DKG Senior Manager Astria Nur Irfansyah ST MEng, along with the ITS DKG team. “We also convey our high appreciation to the faculties and departments that have carried out extraordinary international programs,” he said.
Ashari also revealed that the recognition from ASSCAT is expected to be able to encourage ITS spirit to continue to network with other foreign partners. Not only that, but the alumnus of Curtin University Australia also advised that recognition from international partners would also be able to add insight to ITS in encouraging the internationalization process.
Meanwhile, Wahyu also expressed his gratitude for the appreciation given by ASSCAT. He said that the PRAISE award was given because Wahyu often contributed to promoting the ITS collaboration program with ASSCAT. “This includes being willing to give advice and input until I was invited as a speaker in their international workshop,” said the ITS Civil Engineering alumnus.
In line with what Ashari said, Wahyu said that ITS was seen as a good partner institution and produced many benefits for ASSCAT, both for students, lecturers, and the university itself. The man who was born in 1989 did not expect that his hard work would pay off.
“Actually, I also didn’t expect to be given this appreciation, because basically what we have done at DKG so far has only been trying to establish good communication relations with partners,” said Wahyu gratefully.
The ITS DKG Outbound Program Manager also said that DKG had a close relationship with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as a Philippine government agency tasked with overseeing universities. The strong support from CHED itself is evidenced by many alumni from CommTECH activities from the Philippines and several other international activities that involve them.
In the future, Wahyu emphasized that he would continue to communicate with partners, especially ASCCAT, and as much as possible continue to strive so that all international partners have good relations with ITS. “All ITS programs will be well communicated, especially in terms of mobility and joint research and global partners can participate in more ITS programs in the future,” concluded Wahyu.
