ITS Campus, ITS News– The rapid development of telecommunications requires the readiness of human resources in Indonesia to compete globally. To fulfill these needs, the Department of Electrical Engineering Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) launched a new study program (Prodi), namely the bachelor program (S1) in Telecommunication Engineering.
The Head of the ITS Electrical Engineering Department, Dedet Candra Riawan ST MEng Ph.D., explained that the Telecommunication Engineering study program was originally part of the field of specialization in the ITS Electrical Engineering undergraduate program. However, Semester Credit Unit (SKS) The limited scope and the discussion that is not very specific makes the field of telecommunications specialization need to be formed into a new study program. “The launch of this study program is a form of anticipation for ITS in the face of increasingly fast and rapid global developments,” said Dedet.
This study program under the ITS Electrical Engineering Department has more Telecommunication Engineering course clusters. The Head of the Proposal Drafting Team for the ITS Telecommunication Engineering Study Program, Prof. Ir Gamantyo Hendrantoro MEng, Ph.D., stated that this study program provides three areas of specialization: telecommunications systems, telecommunications networks, and information transmission media. “Registration for new students for the ITS Telecommunication Engineering study program is ready to open in 2022 through the Partnership, Independent and Achievement Selection (SKMP),” he explained.
Further, Gamantyo added that students would be facilitated by three laboratories: the Telecommunication Network Laboratory, the Multimedia Communication Laboratory, and the Antenna and Propagation Laboratory. “Classroom facilities, supporting laboratories, and all teaching staff is fully prepared,” said the Head of the Electromagnetic Wave Propagation & Radiation Laboratory of the ITS Electrical Engineering Department.
In detail, the Multimedia Communications Laboratory will support the telecommunications system class, the Telecommunication Network Laboratory will help the telecommunications network course, and the Antenna and Propagation Laboratory will support the information transmission medium class. “This study program will also emphasize computing skills and software-defined networking for students,” added the man born in Jombang.
Finally, Gamantyo hopes that establishing the Telecommunication Engineering study program will contribute to Indonesia in accelerating the development of communication network infrastructure by preparing the best graduates who are more competent. “Hopefully, in the future, this study program will be able to produce innovations that contribute to the distribution of communication services in Indonesia,” he said.
