ITS Campus, ITS News – To support the education and socialization aspect of the community, the Community Service (Abmas) team of the Communication and Visual Design Department (DKV) of the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) again contributed in the form of its best works. Through the created media of illustration posters and digital comics, the DKV Abmas team invites the wider community to realize the pandemic into a Covid-19 endemic.

Two years passed, and Covid-19 is still a focused problem in the world. In Indonesia, the coronavirus is still being fought by maintaining health protocols and obeying the advice issued by the government. To ease the wave of this pandemic, several steps are needed, one of which is in terms of education and socialization.

ITS DKV Department Lecturer Rabendra Yudistira Alamin ST MDs revealed, that the DKV Abmas team is collaborating with the Covid-19 Task Force for Behavior Change in promoting this digital design-based education concept. The collected works are the creation of DKV ITS students from the assignments of the Conceptual Illustration Course.

According to Rabendra, education through this media has broad penetration because it reaches various levels of society, especially social media. Hopefully, with this activity, the public can remain vigilant against the current wave of Covid-19, which is not completely over yet.

As a supporting lecturer with Nugrahardi Ramadhani SSn MT, Rabendra with the Covid-19 Task Force team curated works that matched the needs of education and socialization. As a result, 16 posters and 12 comics by ITS DKV students were selected, which have been and will be published digitally via social media Instagram (@satgaschangeofbehavior). “A total of 16 educational posters have been uploaded as part of the educational series and 12 stories in a comic compilation book are still in the editing process,” said the lecturer who is familiarly called Bendra.

Furthermore, according to Bendra, the posters have diverse content and are packaged in attractive illustrations. The 12 comics are packaged in a digital compilation format, starting to be made after the Mid-Semester Examination (UTS) in the even academic year 2021/2022, and targeted for release at the end of 2022.

Overall, Bendra said, the contents of the uploaded works also consist of various inspirational stories from fascinating points of view. The posters and comics carried material containing positive things to support the transition from the Covid-19 pandemic to the Covid-19 endemic.

Some of these include an invitation to apply 3M (Wearing a mask, washing hands, and keeping a distance), an invitation to the third dose of vaccine, maintaining mental health during a pandemic, as well as an invitation to go home and go to school safely and healthily.

As the continuation of the previous year’s mission, this year’s abmas project has several obstacles, such as educational materials must always be up-to-date and dynamic. So that the content to be presented must continue to be validated by competent experts.

He hopes that this illustration and comic-based media can be a small effort that has a big impact on society. “Hopefully with these works, people will always maintain vigilance and remain obedient to health protocols so that efforts to turn a pandemic into an endemic can soon be realized,” said Bendra.
