ITS Campus News – The number of professional engineers in Indonesia is still far from being needed. Contributing to meeting the needs of engineers in Indonesia, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) inaugurated 91 new engineers consisting of 43 ITS lecturers, 42 general public, and six people from a company named PT Dharma Lautan Utama (DLU) on Saturday (15/ 10).
Based on ITS Rector Decree No.1482/IT2/T/HK0001/2022,ITS Professional Engineer Study Program (PSPPI) Batch 9 was officially inaugurated at Hotel Bumi Surabaya and was live-broadcasting on ITS YouTube channel . In his remarks, ITS Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. Mochamad Ashari M.Eng., IPU, A.Eng., congratulated and thanked the graduates for working well during this six-month education period.
According to The Rector, who is familiarly called Prof. Ashari, in terms of the number of ITS PSPPI graduates, it has increased up to 200 percent compared to a few years ago. Therefore, ITS plans to open a regular course for its admission which allows undergraduate graduates to get a professional program immediately after completing their undergraduate studies. “So that they can get such a license for achieving engineering job after graduation,” he continued.
Prof. Ashari expects that this inauguration can also help increase Indonesia’s prestige in the eyes of the international community because the role of engineers or practitioners in engineering is huge for society. “Hopefully, it can give color to Indonesia’s development,” The professor of Electrical Engineering ITS said.
The Chairman of The Association of Indonesian Engineers for The East Java Region, Prof. Dr. Ir. Mohammad Bisri, M.S., IPU, also delivered a speech at ITS Professional Engineer Study Program (PSPPI) Inauguration
Meanwhile, The Chairman of The Association of Indonesian Engineers (PII) for The East Java Region, Prof. Dr. Ir. Mohammad Bisri, M.S., who was also present at that event, revealed that until now ITS has produced 667 engineers and has become one of the universities with the highest number of engineers in East Java. “PII also encourages other institutions in various regions to increase the number of engineers,” he said.
According to a man called Prof. Bisri, the number of engineers with an Engineer Registration Certificate (STRI) in East Java is only 2,477. This amount is still relatively small compared to the workforce’s needs. Therefore, Prof. Bisri advised that PSPPI graduates should immediately hold STRI and other equipment, such as Membership Cards (KTA) and Primary Professional Engineers (IPP). “Do not forget to promote your friends to join this professional program,” he warned.
