ITS Campus, ITS News – A team of students from the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) succeeded in creating an application called Yokado by innovating the gift recommendation marketplace platform. This application uses artificial intelligence technology to recommend gifts to users who are unsure what to buy.
Muchamad Maroqi Abdul Jalil, a member of the Yokado team from ITS, revealed that this application was built by a team of three people, including himself. The other two members are students from the University of Indonesia (UI) and Bina Nusantara University (Binus). “In this team, I, as the frontend, am tasked with building application displays and chatbots,” explained the ITS Informatics Engineering Department student.
Furthermore, the young man who is usually called Jalil explained that one of the advantages of the Yokado application is the chatbot feature. This feature, named Naraya, makes it easier for users to get recommendations suitable for gift recipients. “Apart from displaying gift recommendations, the Naraya bot feature will also recommend gift wrapping, so users don’t have to worry anymore when wrapping it,” Jalil added.
According to Jalil, the flow of the Yokado application will direct users to a chat view with the Naraya bot. Naraya offers two methods for obtaining gift recommendations: a questionnaire and photos of gift recipients. “Through the interactive conversation of the Naraya bot, users will be asked about their relationship with the recipient, favorite colors, and hobbies using the questionnaire method,” said the 2019 batch student.
On the other hand, continued Jalil, photographing gift recipients utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Through segmentation, the technology can detect the color, type of clothing, and attributes used by the recipient of the gift with the photo. “Furthermore, the application will display recommendations for gifts and wrappers that match the characteristics of the gift recipient,” he added.
Awarded as the Best Technology application at the DevCamp 2022 event organized by Tokopedia some time ago, Jalil said that his team excelled in several features. “In addition, a clear, structured, and rational design concept to implement finally brought our team to be named the Best Technology,” said the ITS Ichiro Robotics Team programmer.
Within 19 hours, the team could build the website-based application even though there were features that still needed to be implemented. Although not all features materialized, the team was able to meet the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) design targets. “In addition, this application is well integrated between the database, chatbot, and appearance,” he concluded.
