ITS Campus News – Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) keeps introducing the almamater to the country. One of the way is by simultaneously holding try out for high school and equivalent students in 53 schools in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province on the last Thursday (20/10).
The coordinator of this activity, Dr. Didik Khusnul Arif, S.Si., M.Si., explained that this activity was one of a series of ITS 62nd Anniversary. This try out was carried out because the echoes of this hero campus in NTB Province, especially remote areas, are still very low. “By providing this try out, we want the name ITS to become better known,” he said.
During one month preparation period, Didik said that there had been a significant change in plans for the event he was responsible for. As a result of the local government’s positive response, the try out, which was originally planned to only be held in the city of Mataram, was eventually held throughout the province of NTB.
Facing this sudden change, Didik and his team racked their brains so that the try out could be carried out on time as scheduled. Finally, due to time, cost, and communication constraints, each school that applied was required to include the top 10 percent of its best students. “Even so, the initial goals of ITS and the local government were still successfully fulfilled. Moreover, this is our first experience holding try outs for one province at a time,” said the lecturer at the Mathematics Department proudly.
It doesn’t stop at the try out itself, from the 850 best high school students in the NTB Province who participated, ITS will give golden tickets to the six best participants. This rare opportunity was given by The Faculty of Industrial Technology and Systems Engineering (FTIRS) to enter six departments under its auspices. “There are Departments of Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Materials and Metallurgical Engineering,” said the man who was born in 1973.
Even though they experienced many problems in terms of communication, devices, and internet connection, Didik said that his party was satisfied with the results obtained. In addition, the ITS Mathematics alumnus expressed his gratitude to all his delegations, NTB Provincial Government (Pemprov), NTB Provincial Education Office, and related stakeholders who were very enthusiastic and helped carry out this try out. “Thanks to them, all the difficulties at the location can be handled properly,” said the lecturer who is originally from Jombang.
Lastly, Didik hopes that with all the difficulties faced by his party, he can take valuable lessons. Besides, he expects that the echoes of the name of the ITS campus will be increasingly recognized by students in the NTB Province. “Furthermore, we hope that more students of NTB will study in ITS,” he concluded hopefully.
