ITS Campus News – Never stop making achievements, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) once again won the Asia Pacific level robotics competition. At this time, ITS Robotics with Intelligent System (IRIS) Team succeeded in becoming the winner of theRoboCup Asia Pacific 2022 event which was held online on Saturday (26 /11) then.
In this international scale event, the IRIS team’s wheeled robot in an autonomous robot soccer match managed to score the best score to become a champion. Featuring two robots, the IRIS team won 1st place in the Cooperation Challenge category and 1st place in the Open Challenge category. Last year, the IRIS ITS team was only able to win 2nd place in the Video Challenge category and 4th place in the Scientific Challenge category at the same event.
Explained by IRIS team leader Hafiz Zain Fahrizal, in the Cooperation Challenge the competition scoring system gives each team a trial opportunity. Later, each team is given three attempts to score goals in the goal and will be accumulated. “The score with the most goals scored will be the winner,” explained this third year student.
However, he continued, there are new challenges in the Cooperation Challenge category which are different from the previous year. Of course, as usual, there are obstacles that must be overcome before scoring goals in the goal. The difference is, this time the robot also has to dribble the ball two meters away before scoring a goal and the size of the ball used is also different.
Meanwhile, for the Open Challenge category, explained Hafiz, each team will be given 15 minutes. On this occasion, each team’s mainstay robot must take advantage of golden opportunities to score goals. Later, the fastest time will be taken which team can score three goals in that time. The robot must score goals without a kicking system or dribble.
Hafiz also explained that this wheeled robot uses the Finite State Machine (FSM) algorithm. Meanwhile for input, FSM gets calculations from data originating from hardware and omnicam. “To move the robot, velocity is used as output and data is used to control the kicking system,” said the student of the Department of Electrical Engineering.
Nevertheless, the IRIS team also encountered obstacles that had to be faced. The minimum preparation time, which was only a month, made the team have to work harder in the midst of a busy class schedule. “Amazingly, many friends at IRIS can help and support each other so that the preparation for the competition can be very thorough,” Hafiz said.
In this case, ITS, which plays an active role in the development of science and technology, is also very supportive to the IRIS team. ITS provides an inventory of tools and equipment in the robotics workshop to facilitate the IRIS team. So that students can be creative in creating the best robots to advance in international competitions.
In the future, Hafiz hopes that the IRIS team can continue to develop their research and make achievements in various competitions. Later on, there are still various competitions waiting, starting from Indonesian Robot Competition (KRI), French RoboCup, and also Asia Pacific RoboCup in the next year that IRIS must conquer. “Hopefully, IRIS can continue to develop research and make ITS proud in the next year,” he hoexpected.
