ITS Campus News – Continuing to strive to achieve continuous human resource (HR) performance and create an environment with zero carbon emissions (net zero carbon), Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) and PT Riau Andalan Pulp Paper (RAPP) collaborated by signing a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This activity was mutually agreed upon at Rapim Meeting Room, ITS Rectorate Building on Monday (5/12).
PT RAPP’s first collaboration with an educational institution was designed with a focus on developing human resources from an academic perspective which will later be continued on the technology, research and innovation side. The selection of ITS is considered to be linear with the company’s needs and the massive and renewable development of science and technology (science and technology) by ITS academicians.
The Vice Rector I for Academic and Student Affairs ITS, Prof Dr Ir Adi Soeprijanto MT, expressed his openness to the collaboration offered by this international level company. This is also seen as a great opportunity because PT RAPP is engaged as the largest producer of pulp (pulp) and paper, namely PaperOne Team, with the latest and the most efficient technology in the world.
With good company experience, Adi thinks that this collaboration can improve the performance of Indonesian human resources, especially for fresh graduates. Of course, this collaboration offered will also be conducted starting from an internship opportunity until finally being able to take part and work in this large company.
Besides, Adi also expects that this collaboration will be continued in the form of apprenticeships, industrial visits, practicing lecturers, to synchronize the preparation of a curriculum compiled by universities with the needs of the industrial world. “So that the learning process that is conducted later can bring the world of education closer to the industrial world,” said the professor of Electrical Engineering hopefully.
On the other hand, The Vice Rector IV for Research, Innovation, Cooperation, and Alumni ITS, Bambang Pramujati ST MSc Eng PhD, confidently places his expectation on ITS academicians when looking at planning factory operations on the basis of manufacturing principles. “This practice is fairly efficient in the use of energy and water and also can minimize emissions,” he said.
The collaboration offered also fuels his efforts and resources in research and development to advance sustainable approaches such as environmental management, in line with Indonesia’s achievements in 2030 which will transform into a country with zero carbon emissions as well as being responsible for forestry research and central nursery management for all fiber business units.
According to Bambang, seeing the company’s focus on a various fields, not only on management, it is considered as a process and development with good targets for ITS students. “With variety of bright ideas and active contributions, we make sure that all achievements of this collaboration will run smoothly,” said the lecturer of Mechanical Engineering Department optimistically.
It is expected that in the future, ITS and PT RAPP can continue to work intensively and collaborate massively in the realm of technology development, research, and innovation. Furthermore, lecturers who want to conduct a research related to that company are also expected to open up opportunities in accordance with the needs of the company regulations. (HUMAS ITS)
