ITS Campus News – Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) continues to strive to get potential students, both nationally and internationally. In order to realize this effort, ITS held a series of promotions and selections to enter ITS by looking for great candidates in Timor Leste, last Saturday (3/12). This open recruitment was intended to recruit international students for bachelor, master, and doctoral degree, especially in Timor Leste region.

The Senior Manager of International Promotion and Mobility of ITS Global Engagement, Octaviyanti Dwi Wahyurini ST MAppDesArt PhD, explained that this activity was held in collaboration with three directorates in ITS such as The Directorate of Global Engagement, The Directorate of Education, and The Directorate of Postgraduate and Academic Development. The woman who is familiarly called Oyn added that the three directorates had been coordinating since September to prepare for the implementation of this program.

The lecturer from Visual Communication Design (DKV) Department ITS said that the student selection process was attended by East Timorese prospective bachelor, master and doctoral students. In more detail, Oyn explained that there were 81 applicants for the Bachelor degree attended by 47 people and 60 applicants for the Master and Doctoral degree attended by 27 people. “We don’t limit the quota, but we will definitely select the best students,” he added.

Furthermore, the woman who is originally from Surabaya explained that the selection was divided into two stages, written test and interview. After that, participants who have passed these selection will take part in the matriculation program to prepare themselves to join ITS study program, based on the choice of each participant.

The master graduate from The Curtin University Australia said that the recruitment process was conducted directly at Indonesian Cultural Center in Dili, Timor Leste. Besides the student recruitment process, this series of activities was also filled with promotional activities and visits to ministries and universities in Timor Leste for three days, starting on Sunday (4/12). Oyn added that the visits were also accompanied by ITS alumni who stayed in Timor Leste at the same time.

According to Oyn, Timor Leste itself was chosen as the host of the activity because ITS had collaborated with the Fundo de Desenvolvimento do Capital Humano (FDCH). FDHC is a scholarship institution managed by Timor Leste Government which provides full scholarships for undergraduate, master, doctoral, vocational students and also Human Resource (HR) development training in ITS. “In addition, there are also quite a lot of ITS alumni in Timor Leste,” she said.

At the end, the doctoral graduate from The Clemson University United States of America expects through this activity, ITS can be more well-known by international community, especially those in Timor Leste, as well as increasing collaboration between ITS, government agencies, and educational institutions there. “Hopefully, the efforts and relationships built by ITS can contribute to recruit potential students who are useful for the future,” she concluded.
