Campus ITS – ITS News, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) continues to show the results of its efforts to realize the vision of becoming a world-class university. ITS ranking shot up 50 positions for the world’s best universities according to the Webometrics Ranking Web of Universities for January 2023.
Webometrics is an international ranking system that assesses the impact of website content and research publications on universities worldwide. This assessment helps disseminate access to knowledge produced by universities. Published annually in January and July, this ranking houses 31,000 universities worldwide.
Secretary of the ITS Institute (SEKITS) Dr. Umi Laili Yuhana SKom MSc revealed that based on the world ranking results in January 2023, ITS shot up to position 1,146 from position 1,196 in July 2022. Improvements in all aspects of the Webometrics assessment triggered the increase of 50 rankings. “The most significant increase occurred in the Openness indicator of 161 positions,” said the lecturer, who is familiarly called Yuhana.
He added that another assessment indicator, namely impact, also experienced an increase from the previous ranking of 955 to 917. The evaluation parameter for this aspect was the number of external networks (subnets) linked to the institution’s website pages. The impact has the highest rating weight, assessed through Ahref and Majestics’ Search Engine Optimization (SEO) software. “The weight is 50 percent, and ITS has gone up 38 positions,” he added.
This lecturer from the ITS Informatics Engineering Department explained that improving the quality of institutional reporting is a strategy for increasing Impact indicators. In addition, management centralization and updating information on the ITS website are carried out to ensure that the information presented is always up-to-date. Not only the quality of information but website security is also improved. “To reduce the existence of broken links and cyber-criminal acts,” said Yuhana.
Meanwhile, the Director of Research and Community Service (DRPM) ITS Fadlilatul Taufany ST Ph.D. said that on the Openness indicator, ITS managed to rank 1,073 from previously sitting at 1,234. This aspect assesses the number of citations from the researcher’s affiliation with universities set through the Google Scholar profile.
The profile calculation is the top 310 profiles minus the first 30 profiles. He said that the results of this ranking proved the quality of ITS researchers. “The competence of researchers is equal and qualified, especially those in the top 310,” he said.
The man familiarly called Taufany said that the Excellence indicator had also increased from 1,959 to 1,933. For this indicator, Webometrics calculates the number of articles cited in the Scimago database for articles published for five years (2017 – 2021), as for ITS efforts in Excellence, namely continuing to encourage international journal publications. “In terms of quality and quantity, we continue to push,” he said.
The Chemical Engineering Department lecturer explained that starting in 2023, ITS has prepared a research output database that can be accessed openly through ITS Scholar (scholar.its.ac.id). With the creation of the ITS Scholar, it is hoped that many outside partners will know the competence of ITS researchers. “So that research networks and the distribution of research resources can be carried out globally,” he explained.
The increase in ITS world ranking on Webometrics has made it maintain its position in the top seven best universities in Indonesia. This is expected to make it easier for ITS stakeholders (prospective students, students, parents of students, lecturers, external partners, and the general public) to find quality information and knowledge through the official ITS website.
Prospective students can access information related to admission via https://www.its.ac.id/admission/, as well as parents can monitor the latest information via https://www.its.ac.id/id /parent/. Meanwhile, the general public can obtain news related to ITS through a centralized page at https://www.its.ac.id/news/. (ITS Public Relation)
