Bandung, ITS News – The robotics world of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) has returned to bring good news with its proud achievements. This time, two robots from the ITS Banyubramanta team won the title in the Technogine national competition which was held offline in Bandung by Telkom University, some time ago.
In this technology-based event, the ITS Banyubramanta team carries a smart underwater robot that must complete various missions. Featuring two smart robots named Stefanus and Petrus, the Banyubramanta team successfully won two consecutive championship positions. Namely in the Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicle (ROV) category as first winner with the Best Pilot & Best Design ROV award and also won second place.
General Manager of the ITS Banyubramanta team Ardiar Diandra Putra Suharsono explained that in the race scoring system there are three missions that must be completed by the ROV robot. However, there are challenges that must be faced in this ROV category. “There are various obstacles that must be overcome while catching the ball which is a challenge for the team in determining the appropriate material and design of the robot,” he explained.
Ardiar continued, the Banyubramanta team focused more on catching and moving the ball. This mission was considered more difficult because many of the previous participants failed due to the selection of an inappropriate shape or design for the use of the gripper. “We have prepared the best gripper that is more efficient than before, so it helps the ITS team a lot in scoring points,” added this third year student.
However, the Banyubramanta team, who was accompanied by Dr Rudy Dikairono ST MT MSc, also had to face several obstacles. The competition system that was previously carried out online, this year the ROV robot must be realized physically. This makes the team need to work harder, especially at the stage of preparation or manufacture of the ROV robot that will be contested. “There have been several reforms both in terms of electricity, mechanics, and how the robot is programmed,” he explained.
The ITS Banyubramanta Team won 1st and 2nd place in the Technogine 2022 national event
However, with full support from ITS, in the end, all challenges were successfully faced to produce a championship. ITS fully supports the creation of its students by providing tools and equipment in robotics workshops. In addition, the campus also provided financial assistance to facilitate the Banyubramanta team.
Ardiar hopes that the Banyubramanta team can spread its wings more broadly by continuing to develop research and make achievements in various competitions both nationally and internationally. “In the future, it is still possible for the Stefanus and Petrus robots to be used and developed again in the same race category,” he concluded.
