ITS Campus, ITS News – The Chemical Engineering Department of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) again held the Indonesia Chemical Reaction Car Competition 2023 (ICRCC 2023) which succeeded in passing 15 teams from various universities in Indonesia in the final stage. After two years of being held online due to the pandemic, this annual competition was again held offline at the ITS Robotics Center Building, Saturday (13/5).
ICRCC 2023 Chief Executive Qurratul Ain Farahiyah said that this year was the first time ICRCC was held offline after the re-branding in 2021. ICRCC is a prototype car competition made from chemical reactions, a series of annual grand events of the ITS Chemical Engineering Innovation Festival (Carnival). “Apart from making a low-emission chemical reaction car, participants are challenged to run their cars on the track at the race day stage,” said Farah, his nickname.
Furthermore, Farah revealed there should have been 18 teams entering this final stage. However, three teams experienced financial problems, leaving 15 to compete in the last step. At the 2023 ICRCC, ITS sent two representative teams: Spektronics 23 and Spektronics 24. Then, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) became the university with the most representatives, as many as three teams: Cakra Race, Arjuna Race, and Akira Race.

Before the race stage, there is a Test Run stage, where each team is given time to calculate how much chemical is needed so that the car can go and stop by itself. Each team is allowed twice to drive their vehicle at the race day stage. The value taken is the best value of the two experiments.
Unlike previous years, the shape of the track race used this year is a trapezoid. With a track length of 10 meters and a tolerance line of 1.5 meters, every car given a load of 800 grams is required to drive to the finish line. Ratings are measured from the distance the vehicle stops to the finish line and the vertical midpoint of the track. “However, if the car crosses the track or tolerance line, then the team will be disqualified,” explained this 2021 batch student.
